Not many characters can match the power of Superman. A previously underestimated character from DC now emerges from obscurity and threatens the entire universe thanks to a god complex.
Which character is it? Firestorm is a character created by Gerry Conway and Al Milgrom that first appeared in a DC comic in 1978. The title: “Firestorm No. 1”.
The series was not particularly long-lived and was discontinued after five issues. Several years later, more comic series and appearances in shows followed. Overall, the character has remained somewhat under the radar to this day.
However, it is very exciting: Firestorm was created from the merging of two characters. In a failed experiment, a nuclear incident occurred in a lab. As a result, Professor Martin Stein and his physics student Ronald Raymond became a single entity.
Raymond was the body, while Stein provided the consciousness. In later versions of Firestorm, there have been different interpretations of the character, with various figures having used the identity.
A new comic series could finally make Firestorm popular again and demonstrate the true power of the character. For he can easily match Superman’s powers and even surpass them at times – making him no exception.
The Game with the Elements
Why is Firestorm so powerful? The central ability of the character is to change matter and elements. This gives him the means of a god to shape or destroy the world.
In the new comic series “The Fury of Firestorm” by Jeff Lemire and Rafael De Latorre, it is already shown in the preview of the first volume that the character goes out of control.
In the story, Firestorm reaches a small town in Colorado and starts conducting experiments. He uses his abilities to change objects. Buildings are destroyed, matter is manipulated, and the residents, who soon resist Firestorm, are cruelly fused together.
It shows: Firestorm is out of control. To stop him, the military contacts Lorraine Reilly, who is called Firehawk and has similar abilities to Firestorm. She is to stop him. Whether that will succeed remains to be seen in the comic series.
What is certain is that Firestorm’s extremely powerful abilities pose a great threat to the DC Universe. Even Superman, who is often seen as a very strong hero, would likely have difficulty against the out-of-control Firestorm.
Perhaps the character will soon experience a second spring and appear in other media alongside the comic series. As a powerful antagonist, he would be an ideal candidate for future films or series.
