All beginnings are difficult, especially in a game known for its challenging difficulty. One player struggled for hours and could not defeat the first boss from Elden Ring: Nightreign and urgently needed help from the community.
What is the player suffering from? A player (Key_Construction_935) posted a desperate post on Reddit, stating that after 8 hours in the game, he had still not been able to defeat the first Nightlord of the game. This is “Gladius, Beast of the Night” (or also “Tricephalos”), who is faced as the first final opponent after two nights of a run before players can tackle the other Nightlords of the game.
To express his struggle, he used the Souls meme “My stomach hurts” and simply asked the community with a “Please.” After a few days, there are over 900 replies to his post.

How does the community react? The other players from the Nightreign Subreddit are surprisingly understanding, which is not always the case in the Souls community and is often characterized by measuring greatness and critiquing other playstyles.
“Don’t be too discouraged,” writes Kirayoshikage258133, “This is a roguelike. Failing is probably more accepted in this genre than in a soulslike.”
But understanding alone cannot help the poor player; the community is aware of this – and bombards him with tons of simple tips that are actually very effective.
What are their main tips? The community provides tips on general gameplay as well as on fighting Gladius himself. Here are some of the most common tips from the Reddit thread:
- The giants from the mines drop guaranteed stones for weapon upgrades (Level 2).
- Field bosses and large enemies drop legendary weapons more frequently when the player is above level 10.
- Status effects melt enemies away. One should use them often.
- The scarab beetles drop talismans, and their locations can be found through maps in fortresses.
- It makes little sense to resurrect an enemy with three bars; it’s like a trap and you will get trampled by the enemy. One should use their ultimate in the boss fight for that.
- When exploring and looting the map, one should prioritize the outer buildings instead of running directly to the middle of the map; there will be time for that later.
- And for Gladius: Holy damage stuns him much faster than other damage.
It is refreshing to see that a Souls game community can be so supportive. This might be due to the nature of multiplayer, as every player benefits when another random player knows just as much as they do.
