In Pokémon GO there are two new features recently. However, one of them is now being heavily criticized by the trainers. We from MeinMMO show you exactly which feature this is and what change the players desire.
Which function is it? For a few weeks now, trainers can not only discover routes in Pokémon GO, but also participate in so-called Showcases at selected PokéStops. This is a kind of competition where trainers can compare their specimens of a previously designated monster with each other and thus earn rewards.
However, this function is now being criticized by some trainers. We have summarized the background for you below.
Trainers demand more variety in the Showcases
Criticism of size: In the past few weeks, you have repeatedly had the opportunity to participate in the new Showcases. From Squirtle and Psyduck to Balgoras and Amarino to Lilminip, you could compare your specimens. But so far it has only been about one thing: Which is the largest.
To achieve a victory, you need to have the best a large and heavy XXL Pokémon of the sought-after monster. And that is now displeasing for some trainers.
As the Reddit user ArcticWolfl writes in his post (via reddit.com): Why is it all about who has the largest showcase? Seriously: Why are there even XXS Pokémon if there is no competition for the smallest? We’re in Pokémon GO, not in a high school locker room.
Why is this a topic? For a long time now, trainers have been able to catch monsters of various sizes in Pokémon GO. Especially Pokémon of the types XXS and XXL are needed to complete the medals in the game.
With the introduction of the new Showcase feature, they should finally have some utility for collecting them. But so far, only the XXL Pokémon are being used.
Trainer mocks: XXS will exist as soon as I empty my box
What trainers want: Other trainers also find it a shame that it is always only about the largest Pokémon and hope for more variety in the future. They are particularly hoping that XXS Pokémon could soon appear in competitions, finally searching for the smallest specimens of a type.
And they also believe that the selection of monsters could be reconsidered. Some would find it interesting if there were not always Showcases with a fixed monster, but if there would also be a selection here, as has already been implemented at certain events.
However, they suspect that such a general implementation could still take some time to avoid possible errors in the game before the upcoming big GO Fest. Or it might come at exactly the wrong moment.
As can be read in the following comments on Reddit:
- godsim42:
XXS will exist as soon as I empty my box.
- RavenousDave:
At the presentation by Niantic, both the smallest and the largest Showcases were mentioned. I suspect they will operate the largest for a while and then switch to the smallest. As long as the GO Fests are running, not much is likely to change. At least I hope not, as that could ruin the GO Fest.
- Arizzira:
There is really no reason why a Pokéstop should not search for ‘Smallest Lilminip’ for competing XXS Lilminip, while the next Pokéstop searches for ‘Largest Lilminip’ with competing XXL Lilminip. They could even make some stops for completely different Pokémon, as they did during Adventure Week (Balgoras and Amarino) or during Community Day (Psyduck, Quappp, Quaxo).
Trainers see criticism calmly: Other players remain rather calm about the criticism, because in the Showcases there are usually monsters that can be found particularly often in the wild during an event. For this reason, they see no reason why to hold on to collected XXL and XXS Pokémon.
As Opposite-Chocolate42 explains (via reddit.com): I just deleted all my XXS because I think it’s only been about the largest so far. But usually, the Pokémon in the Showcases spawn in the wild, so you might not even need to keep the XXS and XXL unless you want to.
What do the developers say about it? The developers of Pokémon GO confirm on their page that there will initially only be Showcases with large specimens, but do not rule out changes. They write the following (via niantic.helpshift.com): Currently, there are only Showcases for the largest Pokémon. However, more Showcases may be added in the future.
When this will happen and how these additional Showcases will look is not yet clear and remains to be seen. As soon as there are new information, you will find out about it at MeinMMO.
How do you like the new Showcase feature? Do you also think that there should finally be more variety? Or are you satisfied with the current approach? Let us know in the comments and discuss with other trainers about it.
