Typing on a keyboard comes easy to some, while others fear every typo. A new game launching on Steam turns this fear into a principle.
What game is it? Final Sentence is an upcoming Battle Royale developed by a single person. This individual goes online by the name Button Mash and brings fresh air to the “Battle Royale” genre with his original idea.
Instead of running around a vast map with weapons like in Fortnite, PUBG, and others, Final Sentence gives you a typewriter. Together with up to 100 other players, or privately with up to 8 friends, you sit at a desk in a dimly lit room.
You must type various sentences that the game prompts you. At first glance, this may not sound particularly exciting, and the connection to the Battle Royale genre isn’t obvious. However, this changes quickly when you realize that every mistake can be fatal.
Here you can see the cinematic trailer, which already conveys the dark atmosphere of the game:
Typing Meets Russian Roulette
What makes it special? Next to each desk stands an NPC with a pistol. There is only one bullet in it, but the weapon can be fired six times.
In other words, if you make a mistake while typing on the typewriter, the NPC will pull the trigger. If you’re lucky, the gun is empty, and you survive your mishap. If you’re unlucky, you’re hit, and the bullet ensures a quick game over.
This can create a lot of stress as you try to avoid typos while maintaining a high pace. Additional pressure arises because you can see how other players around you fail and shots are fired. As in classic Battle Royales, the number of participants will decrease, but here you witness it firsthand.
Behind this exciting idea lies a practical reason. The solo developer stated to Insider Gaming:
I myself am notoriously bad at typing, so I was looking for entertaining ways to improve. This is how the idea for Final Sentence was born.
The game allows you to track your progress. Whether you die or emerge victorious at the end of the round – all results are recorded, so you can look back and see how you improved.
What do players think? Although Final Sentence is not yet released, there are already reactions to the dark cinematic trailer on YouTube. The game mechanics already convince many and lead them to add the game to their Steam wishlist:
- “Awesome, going straight onto my wishlist. Now we just need more typewriter models that can be unlocked during the game, and it would be perfect,” writes Vari486.
- “The budget was spent entirely on the trailer, but the idea looks very promising,” says Angelo-wf4kf, referring to the qualitative difference between simple game graphics and epic trailer visuals.
- “For those who write and play, this is for us,” says Trusarmor4957.
- The user poniechps5291 is skeptical about whether the concept will remain entertaining: “It’s a pointless game, you just keep typing the same text over and over.”
Anyone who wants to take a look at Final Sentence can already do so in a demo on Steam. There is currently no release date for the full version, with only the fourth quarter of 2025 indicated on the shop page. If nothing changes in that regard, we can expect the game by the end of this year.
All those who have trouble with typing on the keyboard may have found their final boss in Final Sentence. Or a playful way to improve their skills. What do you think about it?
