Julian Brandt is a professional football player at Borussia Dortmund and has been a big fan of the anime One Piece since his childhood. Thanks to a goal celebration, the German dubbing studio has become aware of the offensive player and has now invited him for a guest role.
Who is Julian Brandt?
- The 27-year-old is a successful football player and has been part of the German national team since 2016. In FIFA 19, he was even named Player of the Month.
- He currently plays for Borussia Dortmund, previously he was with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. He mainly plays in the attacking midfield and on the wing.
- He is a big fan of One Piece, which he also proves in sports. After scoring a goal, he imitated the pose of Trafalgar Law, who is currently using his “Room” ability.
In an interview with Ruhr Nachrichten, Julian Brandt revealed that a dream of his came true: He was invited to the recording studios in Munich to voice a small role in the German dubbing of One Piece.
The German voice actor of Katakuri, Marios Gavrilis, even filmed Brandt’s appearance:
How did it happen? Brandt had already been in contact with the voice actor of Ruffy, Daniel Schlauch, for several months. Schlauch had the idea that the football player could voice a small role in the anime. The BVB player graciously accepted the offer.
Subsequently, Julian Brandt went to Munich, where he voiced his role at the production company “Rescue Films”. He also brought along his brother Jannis Brandt, who was allowed to speak a few lines as well.
Although both are novices in the dubbing industry, they reportedly did quite well. Brandt clarified, however, that the industry is “really underestimated” and that it is a demanding job performed on set.
On his Instagram profile, he makes it clear what a huge honor it is for him to have been involved in the anime.
What role will he play? The episodes in which Julian Brandt will be heard will air in December 2023. Therefore, he has not yet revealed what role it will be. We only know that it is a small role, which will probably not be seen after the Whole-Cake-Island arc.
If you do not want to miss the football player’s appearance, you need to keep your eyes (and especially ears) open at the end of the year. The episodes will initially be found on free TV in Germany on ProSieben MAXX.
Currently, the episodes from the Wholecake Island arc are airing in Germany. There, Ruffy and his crew must face Big Mom and her family. In a spectacular battle with Katakuri, Ruffy exceeds himself and learns a new ability.
In Japan, fans can look forward to brand new episodes from the Egghead Island storyline starting January 7, 2024:
