Many gamers wish for a PS5 for gaming. A father wanted to make his son happy but almost fell for a bad deal.
The PS5 offers some of the best games available today. Recently, there was an upgrade to the hardware: now you can not only buy the classic PS5 but also the Pro version of the PlayStation 5.
However, there are enough gamers for whom this new version is too expensive – and even the old PS5 is not an easy purchase for many people.
Moreover, the hardware topic quickly becomes confusing if you are not familiar with it. Just think of the stereotype of parents for whom even the new Xbox Series X/S will always be the “Nintendo”.
A story has now drawn the attention of the PlayStation community in the relevant subreddit. Because there, it was a father who wasn’t very knowledgeable who asked a question.
Father finds PS5 with 29 games, but luckily seeks advice
In the subreddit about PlayStation (via reddit), a user named ChinkyBoii reported that he was looking for a gift for his son. It was to be a PS5.
He ended up with the following offer that someone wanted to sell him:
- A classic PS5 with a disc drive
- One controller
- 29 games
- An external 4 TB HDD
Since he was not very knowledgeable about the subject himself, he asked the community whether all of this was a good price for 700 US dollars.
The community intervenes: The response in the comments is quite clearly that this is not a good deal.
On the one hand, current prices of the console are mentioned. You can currently get a PS5 for about 350 Euros. The Pro variant, priced at 799 Euros, is indeed more expensive than the offer but not too far off.
On the other hand, gamers point out the games: of the 29 games, only two are for the PS5. All others are PS4 games. And even though they can be played on the PS5 and include some very good titles like The Last of Us 2, various CoD titles, or Uncharted 4, there are also many that are no longer useful. Thus, this deal likely won’t work out well. The HDD is also only somewhat useful, as you cannot store PS5 titles on it. For that, you need internal SSD storage.
In short: the community clearly warns the father not to accept the deal.

- “A bad deal for the buyer,” says user Fit-Ad-5946 (via reddit).
- “Bad deal, you could get a far better deal with a new PS5, a PS Extra subscription, and a gift card to sort through GameStop’s second-hand titles,” thinks user samseesghosts (via reddit).
In the end, the father also comments again: he thanks everyone for their many replies and says he would rather look for a new PS5 with a subscription model. “Good thing I asked the experts before I buy,” he says.
What to note: The story illustrates well that when looking for gifts, one should always gather information – whether you want to buy a PS5, a new Xbox, a Nintendo console, a PC, or any hardware. With the many versions and variants available, it can quickly become confusing if you’re not familiar with it.
