How can you briefly explain the premise of Lollipop Chainsaw to someone? Maybe like this: “Cheerleader slices up trash-talking zombies with a chainsaw and a ton of weird shit happens.” If that sounds appealing to you, the recently released remaster for Steam and the new consoles might interest you.
What kind of game is it? Lollipop Chainsaw RePop is a remaster of the hack & slash game Lollipop Chainsaw, which was released in 2012 for PS3 and Xbox 360. The remaster was created by Dragami Games in collaboration with developers of the original.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePop was released on September 12, 2024, for PC on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
We will show you the release trailer here:
What is the game about? You once again take on the role of Juliet, an 18-year-old cheerleader with a penchant for lollipops who belongs to a family of zombie hunters. Her weapon of choice is a chainsaw that she swings like a baseball bat.
One day, Juliet is greeted by her schoolmates on her way to high school, all of whom have been transformed into zombies. From this point on, the game becomes even more absurd, the characters wackier, and the humor more crude.
By the way, the story comes from the pen of James Gunn. He has made a name for himself mainly through his work on Guardians of the Galaxy and is currently working on the DC Universe.
Violent representations are replaced by glitter
What’s new in the remaster? Lollipop Chainsaw RePop offers 4K support and 60 FPS on PC and the new consoles. The Switch version runs in Full HD and at 30 FPS. Additionally, we can expect shorter loading times and further improvements to the game.
- with the right stick, you can now look around better
- the developers have improved the button input, making it easier to execute combos
- attack speed increases with the number of consecutive hits
- All characters move faster
For those who find the depiction of violence in the game a bit much or want something new, the new RePop mode replaces blood with colorful glitter effects and hearts. A detailed list of all changes can be found at repop.lollipopchainsaw.com, the official website for the game.
How is the game being received? Out of only 114 user reviews on Steam, 78 percent are positive. Many players complain about the lack of graphics options, even though they enjoy the game. Currently, only the resolution can be changed.
With a standard price of 44.99 euros, the remaster is not cheap either. So if you really want to catch up on the game on PC, you might want to wait for further updates or a sale.
Meanwhile, in the PS Store, you can get three really good games, the BioShock: Collection, for only 10 euros. But you have to be quick, as the offer won’t last long. You can read more about it here: One of the most popular shooters of recent years is currently available on PS5 for only 10 euros
