Bethesda’s new role-playing game Starfield has taken a lot from its spiritual predecessors, the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. However, an important “mechanic” for master thieves is unfortunately not in the game.
For thieves, criminals, and gangsters, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is a paradise. Unattended items are scattered everywhere, sometimes more, sometimes less valuable. The pockets often fill up faster than I can complete a cheap side quest.
However, the really good stuff often has dedicated guards who carefully ensure that no greasy pickpocket can help themselves without consequences.
In Skyrim, it was often not a problem to commit theft, burglary, or even murder without being held accountable. A suitable bucket solved the problem of annoying onlookers. Unfortunately, this does not work in Starfield anymore.
What kind of trick is this? In Skyrim, it is possible to put a lid on curious NPCs so they cannot witness your misdeeds.
A free pass for digital kleptomaniacs. I, for one, could certainly not resist the large loaf of cheese.
But do not dare to cheat the advanced future NPCs of Starfield in this way. Apparently, modern sensors prevent NPCs from having a line of sight to your… excuse me… their valuables needed to catch you while stealing.
However, part of the “feature” is still available in Starfield: Hold down the “Use” button, and you can pick up, rotate, and carry items. You can put buckets on NPCs, but unfortunately cannot steal from them without being detected.
For successful pickpocketing, you also need a useful skill in Starfield.
Fortunately, the sci-fi RPG offers many ways to wealth. Unfortunately, the easiest and craziest way from Skyrim is not one of them.
