An 81-year-old Twitch streamer who plays Minecraft is swatted during a livestream, but she hardly seems disturbed by the situation. On the contrary: She takes it with humor.
What kind of Minecraft grandma is this? When 81-year-old Sue Jacquot learned that her grandson Jack Self was diagnosed with cancer, she started her career on YouTube and Twitch to raise money for his treatment. On her GrammaCrackers channels, she not only played Minecraft but also linked a GoFundMe campaign to collect donations.
Her YouTube channel quickly became successful – it now has over 615,000 subscribers (Source: YouTube) – and the treatment worked for her grandson: he is now cancer-free.
GrammaCrackers continues to produce content on YouTube and Twitch. She has also tried other games besides Minecraft, such as Fortnite and Roblox. Recently, she was swatted.
Somehow funny
Minecraft grandma gets swatted: When GrammaCrackers goes to bed, she often lets her stream run so that fans can play Minecraft via chat messages. During such a livestream, a large squad of police officers stormed her house. In a later stream, her grandson and GrammaCrackers talked about the incident.
The operation involved 20 patrol cars, 5 SWAT vehicles, and several drones. According to GrammaCrackers, the officers were very nice and considerate. At first, the 81-year-old was mostly surprised about what her grandchildren had done.
After all the excitement, GrammaCrackers simply went back to bed. In the video about the incident, she says: The prettiest policewoman I’ve ever seen. […] But I think she could kick someone’s ass if she had to. […] And my children and my grandchild hugged me. You know, you usually don’t get that much attention. […] I really enjoyed it. It was somehow funny.

What exactly is swatting? Even though the Minecraft grandma takes the police operation with humor, swatting should not be underestimated: it is a form of abuse of the emergency call system.
The term derives from the American term SWAT team
, which is deployed in particularly severe situations. In swatting, false reports of bomb threats, hostage situations, or similar are made when calling emergency services, leading to a huge deployment of law enforcement.
This creates a dangerous situation for those affected since the responders are prepared for the worst. For those affected, it can lead to trauma or even physical injuries.
Swatting is a crime because emergency call systems are abused (Source: StGB). Just how severe it can be for those affected can be seen in some cases from the USA:
Especially Twitch streamers are affected by these actions. The perpetrators want to elicit a reaction from the livestreamer through swatting. Even false food orders to a streamer’s address can be a form of it, albeit a much less dangerous one.
How a livestreamer affected by a swatting incident should react is shown by the German Twitch streamer Trymacs: Suddenly, the police show up during a boss fight in Elden Ring with Twitch streamer Trymacs
