How was this list created? We looked at which villains from the DC universe have the abilities to defeat Superman. We focus on the power and abilities of the villains.
For this list, we ignore special variants of Superman and concentrate on the classic version and his abilities. So we do not consider alternatives like Superman Prime or Cosmic Armor Superman.
Mister Mxyzptlk
- First appearance: 1944 in the comic Superman No. 30
Even though Mister Mxyzptlk looks like a harmless guy, he is one of the most powerful beings in the DC universe. He is a type of goblin from the 5th dimension, another dimension that exists apart from our space and time.
He is an immortal being who can perceive everything in the universe, and for whom the laws of physics do not apply. His power is based on magic, one of Superman’s greatest weaknesses, and it is so powerful that he cannot actually be defeated. However, he has a weakness: if he says his name backwards, he disappears into the 5th dimension.
Mister Mxyzptlk is actually a harmless being who enjoys annoying Superman and has no goals like conquering the universe. At the same time, he is impulsive and can plunge the whole universe into chaos with little effort.
