The Sopranos is the oldest series on this list, but still an absolute classic. Tony Soprano is a real mafia boss – including murder, power, and extortion. But he is also something else, namely a family man. When he ends up in therapy due to panic attacks, two worlds collide that actually do not fit together.
The series is brutally honest, dark, and biting. Instead of a classic gangster story, we get broken people with family stress and inner emptiness – just with guns.
Which episode are we talking about? In “Pine Barrens” (Season 3, Episode 11), Paulie and Chris should actually just collect money from a Russian mobster. However, it does not go as planned. The two get lost in the woods, and a gloriously absurd episode follows, in which the two supposedly powerful gangsters wander around in a barely survivable way.
