Few beings have managed to defeat the villain Sauron in the history of Middle-earth. MeinMMO shows you who achieved the impossible. One of his defeats can be seen in the first movie.
His most famous defeat occurred at the end of the Second Age, and it can be seen in the intro to The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Sauron is depicted in physical form during the Battle of Mount Doom. Gil-galad, the Elven King of the Noldor, fought alongside the man Elendil (then king of the Dúnedain) against Sauron.
Although they perished in battle, they were able to defeat him. Isildur, Elendil’s son, cut off Sauron’s finger with the One Ring, thus destroying his physical form. Afterward, Sauron had to regroup. Only much later could he take on a new form.
If Isildur had destroyed the Ring here, Sauron would have been completely defeated much earlier, but he was also corrupted, which ultimately led to his demise.
