Games with over 10 years of waiting time
Fallout 5 (10 years)
With Fallout 4, Bethesda welcomed its fans in the Commonwealth, but that was over 10 years ago. Fans want to venture into the wasteland again, but in a new environment with new faces. If anyone sees Fallout 76 as a successor… forget it – it’s a completely different game and not comparable to its predecessors at release. We recently reported on Fallout 5 and that Bethesda has greenlit its development, but it’s difficult to estimate how long this sequel will still take.
The Witcher 4 (10 years)
The trilogy surrounding the tough witch Geralt is over with The Witcher 3, and since then, fans have been waiting for a continuation of the franchise. There is supposed to be one, and CD Projekt, the developers, are tirelessly working to finish it. This time, the protagonist is not Geralt but his adoptive daughter Ciri. As for the release, don’t expect it before 2026 – overall, fans have been waiting for a continuation for over 10 years.
Bloodborne 2 (10 years)
The exclusive title for PS4 enchanted many fans of cosmic horror with bloody battles against humans, aliens, and beasts. Its story also offered material for a sequel, and PC gamers hope for a port on Steam… But all of this seems very unlikely so far. Sony owns the rights to Bloodborne, and as long as they do not agree to a sequel, things look bleak. As for a PC port, the Japanese company also has a reserved opinion. So it’s a waiting game.
Metal Gear Solid 6 (10 years)
When it comes to Metal Gear Solid, there hasn’t been a new installment of the series since Phantom Pain was released in 2015. With the spin-off Metal Gear Survive, which was released in 2018, Konami tried to bring out a Metal Gear without Hideo Kojima again, but fans were not satisfied at all. Moreover, the title had little to do with the Metal Gear that fans have grown to love over the years. A sequel is still outstanding, and since the mastermind behind the series has left Konami, things do not look good. At least fans can look forward to remakes that Konami is currently developing.
BioShock 4 (12 years)
The good news: BioShock 4 is actively under development; the bad news: there have been many problems. According to reports, the game switched between many studios, and when it comes to the story, the title also failed to impress 2K (Source: pcgamer.com). So for over a decade, the developers have been working to make BioShock 4 a great game, but the title is still far from release. The fact is: you will receive a new story that will have nothing to do with Rapture and Columbia.
CoD: Ghosts 2 (12 years)
Ghosts represented a major flop for many PvP players, but when it comes to the story, Activision scored well. What’s worse is that Ghosts ended with a cliffhanger, and many fans were sure that the shooter would get a sequel – just like CoD 4: MW1 and MW2. Unfortunately, nothing came of it, and since Ghosts turned out to be a flop for Activision, it is highly unlikely that there will be a successor.
Splinter Cell (12 years)
Sam Fisher, one of the most famous and deadliest agents in gaming. Many surely remember him from the old and first Xbox that Microsoft released. Ubisoft was able to release many installments, but since Splinter Cell: Blacklist, nothing has come out. One might think that Ubisoft has turned its back on the series, but two books depicting Sam’s life after the events of Blacklist present a different picture. The studio has the opportunity to follow up, but since 2013, nothing has happened.
Dead Space 4 (12 years)
The end of Dead Space 3 couldn’t have been more dystopian, as there was a devastating cliffhanger. Many fans wondered: What happened to Isaac, does Earth still have a chance to survive, and how could the engineer fight against the new and overwhelming threat from space? Fans have been waiting for the resolution for over 12 years, but there is no Dead Space 4. The idea for a sequel was presented to EA, but the project did not receive the green light (Source: gamingbible.com).
GTA 6 (12 years)
GTA 6, one of the games that fans are probably most eagerly awaiting. The new installment has been waiting for 12 years, but at least Rockstar has shared a lot of information about what fans can look forward to at release. It goes to Vice City, and with the criminal duo Jason and Lucia, you will be able to unleash chaos, earn money, and defy the law.
Sleeping Dogs 2 (13 years)
Sleeping Dogs is a GTA developed by Square Enix with a Chinese storyline. For many, it is the better GTA, as both the story and the fights felt more realistic and immersive. No wonder many fans are still waiting for a sequel. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely, as Sleeping Dogs could not meet expectations. The developer studio United Front Games had to close down, and a planned sequel was buried as well.
The Elder Scrolls 6 (14 years)
If one were to receive an arrow in the knee for each year that has passed since the release of Skyrim, one would have 14 arrows. Yes, it has been that long, and Bethesda is still working on TES 6. Speculations suggest a release in 2026 at the earliest, but just like with GTA 6, this is an ambitious project. Bethesda wants to get everything right, and therefore more time will need to pass before you can play the game.
L.A. Noire 2 (14 years)
L.A. Noire was a chaotic project in terms of development, but among connoisseurs, the title is popular. Instead of being an outlaw, you take on the role of a detective and solve cases in drug, murder, or vice departments in the early 1940s. The game is self-contained concerning its story and protagonist, but a sequel with a new protagonist could still be appealing and would make many fans happy.
