These modes are available for free: A total of 3 Zombie modes await you in the test version:
- The Machine: Here, you must survive rounds of zombies and get a machine running in a Polish bunker.
- Cranked: Here, you fight against zombies and a timer. You need to take down zombies to restart the timer. If the timer reaches zero, you explode.
- Onslaught (only for PlayStation players): This is a 2-player mode where you fight against hordes of zombies and suddenly enter other dimensions through the Dark Aether.
If you haven’t heard much or anything about the Zombie mode so far, check out the following article: CoD Black Ops Cold War introduces zombies – this is what the popular co-op mode entails.
Why you should test the Zombie mode: The Zombie mode is considered very successful and is a must for co-op fans. So if you enjoy playing with friends but don’t want to interact with dozens of other players all the time, the Zombie mode will fully meet your needs.
The mode excels in the constant tension it promises. While you can initially ease into the “The Machine” mode quite relaxed, it becomes action-packed after a few rounds, and you hardly get a moment’s peace.
If you’ve been sticking to Warzone or haven’t purchased Cold War because Modern Warfare is still strong, you should give the mode a try. It’s a whole different experience, and Modern Warfare did not have a zombie mode.
The strong graphics of Cold War make the zombies look frighteningly good, and if you’re fully immersed in the game, you’ll certainly be startled when suddenly a hideous creature stands behind you.
In general, the Zombie mode is considered one of the hallmarks of the CoD spin-offs by Treyarch. You will also find numerous puzzles in this version that you must solve and you need to proceed tactically to purchase powerful weapons and open doors.
Particularly praised is always the replay value of the Zombie mode. You play on the same map, yet you can always solve the puzzles differently or pursue different tactics. Each round plays out differently, and that is what makes the Zombie mode so strong.
Important here is also the co-op aspect. Lone wolves are often punished, and you need to work well together to survive the waves and solve the puzzles.
MeinMMO author Maik Schneider finds the Zombie mode so good that he thinks Cold War is better than Modern Warfare because of it:
The Zombie mode of CoD Cold War shows what I’ve missed in Modern Warfare.
If you do not own Cold War, you should try the free week in the Zombie mode. After that, you might consider a purchase; after all, a lot is happening in Cold War otherwise:
