In Final Fantasy XIV there is a great variety of mounts that you can obtain from various sources. Some of them are also bosses from dungeons and raids. We list 10 of them in this list.
Big bosses are simply part of MMORPGs. You go with your group into a raid or dungeon and fight the beast that is lounging at the end for the loot.
But the FFXIV players are not satisfied just defeating the bosses and claiming their loot. Some of the bosses are also used as mounts and happily ridden across the world. We introduce you to 10 of such bosses in this article and explain how you can obtain them yourself.
Twintania
This is Twintania: The dragon Twintania was the first final boss of a raid in FFXIV. In the twisted shadows of Bahamut, the raiders had to fight against her mechanics and the enrage timer if they wanted the best loot in the game.
Twintania is one of the children of the great dragon Bahamut and fought alongside her creator against the hordes of chimera from Allag. In the end, however, she was captured and turned into a mindless slave of her tormentors.
How to obtain Twintania: The mount is available as a reward for the “Invite a Friend” campaign in FFXIV. You receive golden Chocobo feathers for inviting friends and can exchange them for Twintania with the NPC Fund Vendor. It requires 15 feathers.
All information about the campaign can be found on the official FFXIV website (via Lodestone).
Rathalos
This is Rathalos: Rathalos is actually a guest in FFXIV. The well-known beast from the Monster Hunter games came into the MMORPG as part of a crossover with Monster Hunter World. Together with a real monster hunter and your own Palico, you set out to slay the flying beast.
Players need to defeat Rathalos and then loot his scales to have a smith create armor from them. Stronger versions of Rathalos give you correspondingly better loot and thus better armor. As it is in a real Monster Hunter game.
How to obtain Rathalos: The mount drops from a random chest in the content “Hunt for Rathalos (hard)”. Alternatively, you can exchange the Rathalos flute at the smith in Kugane (X: 9.7 / Y: 8.9) for 50 Rathalos scales+.
Proto-Yadis
This is Proto-Yadis: At the top of a pyramid in the city of Tears, Mhach, resides the boss Yadis. It is a magical defense mechanism created by the powerful mages of Mhach. It is meant to prevent unwelcome guests from entering the inside of the pyramid.
Originally, Yadis came from FFIX. In the beloved PS1 classic, he plays the role of the super-boss, who is very difficult to defeat due to his strong and unpredictable attacks. In the Heavensward expansion, he found his way to FFXIV.
How to obtain Proto-Yadis: The smaller version of the boss, Proto-Yadis, is available as a reward for the achievement “Disarmament in the Arsenal I”. You need to successfully complete the Baldesion Arsenal content.
Automaton No. 14
This is Automaton No. 14: Actually, the boss from the 24-man raid Ridoranna is number 7, is a bit bigger, and slightly deadlier. But it is the same model. The Ridoranna boss gave players a math problem at release that was quite something.
Due to him, the search for prime numbers trended on Google because he forced players to do math in the middle of a fight. After completing the raid, you can actually visit the boss again and dance with him. He is quite lovable.
How to obtain Automaton No. 14: Exchange with the NPC Procurement Officer in the Bozjan Southern Front (X: 14.2 / Y: 29.6) for 180 Bozjan Polycrystals.
Old Roite

This is Old Roite: The longest mount in FFXIV is the very first boss in the Omega raid, which was introduced to the game with the Stormblood expansion. The beast resides in the Delta Quadrant created by Omega as the first round of a tournament.
In it, Omega’s creatures must compete against each other so that in the end the strongest of them can face Omega and thus become even stronger. However, Old Roite is quickly eliminated thanks to the players and becomes your mount.
How to obtain Old Roite: The mount is obtained from a chest in the raid Delta Quadrant 4.0 (epic).
Air Force
This is Air Force: Even though the Air Force may seem small and not so bad, it is quite a nasty thing. It was created by the Omega Weapon to face the Warrior of Light in a tournament to test who is the strongest.
In battle, it throws rockets, bombs, and even summons an octopus onto the battlefield. Originally, however, the weapon came from FFVI, where it attacks the game’s protagonists on the flying continent.
How to obtain Air Force: The mount is obtained from a chest in the raid Sigma Quadrant 4.0 (epic).
Master Typhon

This is Master Typhon: This boss first appears in the infamous quest line featuring the brilliant detective Hildibrand Heliodor Maximillian Manderville. In the Coliseum of Ul’dah, he helped his buddy Ultros with schemes.
After the scam was revealed, Typhon and Ultros faced the Warrior of Light together in the arena… and lost miserably. After that, Typhon looked for a new honest job at the Gold Saucer, where he entertains players at a GATE. He originally came from FFVI as well.
How to obtain Master Typhon: Buy it at the Gold Saucer casino for 750,000 MGP.
Ramuh

This is Ramuh: Actually, FF players know Ramuh as an older gentleman with a long gray beard, who commands thunder and lightning as a summon. However, in the Eden raid of the Shadowbringers expansion, there was a different version of Ramuh.
Based on the rather fuzzy memories of the Warrior of Light, Eden summoned this boss as a mix of Ramuh and the Thunderhorse Ixion. Ixion is not even a Primae but a FATE boss, but the confused thoughts of our player character caused the two bosses to merge.
How to obtain Ramuh: The mount is obtained from a chest in the raid Eden Resonance – Stasis (epic).
Cerberus
This is Cerberus: Cerberus first encounters players as one of the bosses in the “World of Darkness” raid. As is typical for a watchdog, he is chained there guarding a huge gate. Players must defeat him to progress to the Cloud of Darkness.
However, Cerberus is not an animal but a mid-level non-servant. Many centuries ago, he was captured by the mages of Mhach and forced to serve them. And that was what he did until the Warrior of Light and his party came into the World of Darkness.
How to obtain Cerberus: Obtained through the achievement “Queen of Epic Blades I” for successfully completing the content Delubrum Reginae (epic).
Model O
This is Model O: The super boss Omega awaits players at the end of the Omega raid in the Stormblood expansion. The ancient machine was mistakenly understood to be a creation of the Allagans, but in reality, it didn’t even originate from our planet.
Omega came from another star when it chased the dragon Midgardsormr. Its entire purpose in life is to face ever stronger opponents to become stronger itself. Until eventually, only it, Omega, stands at the top of evolution. But that never happened.
How to obtain Model O: The mount is obtained from a chest in the raid Alphametrie 4.0 (epic).
With the Endwalker expansion, even more new mounts will be introduced to the game. Here is what we know so far about the expansion:
