A YouTuber brings home his digital edition of the new PS5 console in a video and unsuccessfully searches for a disc slot. He ends up destroying the console and returns it to the GameStop store to demand his money back.
After the pre-orders for the PS5 went live online, the console sold out extremely quickly at most retailers. Although there were temporary new batches, they also disappeared quickly.
Many fans were therefore unable to secure a PS5 and now have to wait for restocks. The YouTuber group Mega64 has completely destroyed a PS5 in their latest video to deliver a show to their viewers.
This is what happens in the video: The video starts with one of the Mega64 YouTubers buying the console at GameStop and bringing it home. Once there, he plugs it in and unsuccessfully tries to shove the disc of the game Demon’s Souls inside.
However, since his PS5 is a digital edition, it obviously doesn’t work. Throughout the video, the YouTuber attempts several different “methods” to get the disc into the console, which completely dirties the device. Since none of that works, in the end, he takes a hammer and strikes a hole in the PS5, where the disc is then jammed in.
When the destroyed device then doesn’t work, the YouTuber “loses it” and finally dismantles it with a saw. He then brings it back to GameStop. You can watch the destruction for yourself here:
The GameStop employee is completely shocked and tries to explain to the YouTuber that he won’t receive a refund for this. The video ends with the YouTuber seemingly receiving an Xbox Series S as a replacement.
Shock videos are not uncommon on YouTube
This is what lies behind it: The video was obviously not meant to be taken too seriously. The YouTube channel where it was uploaded belongs to a trio of content creators who produce sketches, gaming podcasts, and short films.
The YouTuber knows that his version of the PS5 does not have a disc slot. The whole thing is a show created for the amusement of the viewers.
In fact, the video has 154,5297 views (as of 18.11.2020, 15:40) which is many times more views than most videos on the channel, which range between 11,000 and 37,000 views.
Such “destruction videos” are also not uncommon on YouTube. They are meant to elicit shocked, horrified, or amused reactions from viewers and often work well, as evidenced by the success of the Mega64 video.
The YouTubers are actually not the first to come up with the idea of smashing one of the next-gen consoles. YouTuber Playinrock124, for example, has uploaded videos on his channel in which he destroys both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X.
The consoles are not the only devices that have to face destruction in such videos. TVs and other expensive technology also get damaged.
“That hurts so much.”
This is how the viewers react: Although the video was obviously created humorously, opinions among viewers are strongly divided. Part of the users in the now over 2,000 comments celebrate the action and find the humor well executed.
Some users join in and complain about the poor service of Sony or share that they had the same problem with their console:
I had the same problem! Thanks for telling the truth! This is the last time Sony gets my money!

But there are also voices that do not find the action particularly funny. In the comments under the video and on Twitter, many users expressed that the video is genuinely painful to watch.
Especially because the PS5 is currently sold out worldwide and it has been impossible for many to get a console, users find the destruction unamusing. Therefore, there were also some angry and incredulous comments about the destruction of the PS5:
Did you really just break a PS5 for a dumb video?

However, currently, positive reactions prevail when looking at the ratings of the video. As of today (18.11.2020 at 15:40), there are 9,180 thumbs up, while 5,245 thumbs down are shown.
If you managed to pre-order a PS5, there may be good news waiting for you from MediaMarkt and Amazon.
