Bungie developers have created a Destiny fighting game where Lord Shaxx and Ikora Rey fight each other.
Where does this game come from? Once a year, Bungie celebrates a tradition called “Carnival”. All employees set aside their normal work for a week, form small groups, and create something they feel like making. Only their own creativity sets limits.
Fighting game by Candland: On his website, David Candland now presents a Destiny fighting game that he created in 2018 as part of the Bungie Carnival with eight other Bungie developers. Candland is a designer who worked for Bungie on Halo and Destiny for a long time, but has since moved to Monolith.
Destiny Fighting Game in Retro Style
Developers had very little time: Candland’s team had only four days to complete their Carnival project. It was to be presented on the fifth day.
They decided to develop a functional fighting game using the Destiny engine, which was meant to be “cheesy” and “over-the-top.” While it had its rough edges, they were able to present a remarkable result on the fifth day.
What can the game do? Officially, this fighting game prototype is called “Destiny of Fighters: Super Turbo.” In it, the popular Lord Shaxx among players and Ikora Rey battle in the style of a Tekken or Street Fighter game.
Both characters look a little different than what players know from Destiny 2. Lord Shaxx has no armored gloves or sleeves, but fights with bare fists. Ikora Rey, on the other hand, wears a helmet that strongly resembles the Hunter helmet “Celestial Nighthawk”.
They beat each other with kicks, punches, and throws, using special abilities, such as Shaxx’s Chaos Fist:
Working on it was great, Candland said. He designed, illustrated, and animated the UI and HUD elements himself.
