After the release of all important information about PS5 and Xbox Series X, we asked you again which console you will buy. Here are the results.
What was it about? The time has come: All cards of the next-gen consoles are now on the table. We know exactly when the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be released and how much they will cost.
That’s why we asked you in a survey how your decision stands now. Which console will you buy, and has your opinion perhaps changed? And you answered us eagerly.
Here’s how you voted: The survey ended on September 21. A total of 2,279 MeinMMO readers participated. Each reader could cast exactly one vote. The distribution of votes is as follows:
- PS5 (Disk Version): 39.14 %
- Xbox Series X: 38.00 %
- PS5 Digital Edition: 12.64 %
- Both: 3.95 %
- None: 3.82 %
- Xbox Series S: 2.46 %
The disk version of the PS5 leads our survey with 39.14 %. Very close behind is the Xbox Series X with 38.00 %. Both consoles cost €499 and will be released in November.
In third place is the Digital Edition of the PS5. Although this version of the PS5 is €100 cheaper, only 12.64 % of you chose it. It seems that, despite the price difference, not many can warm up to Sony’s purely digital console.
3.95 % of you will buy both consoles. However, it was mentioned several times in the comments that they will come staggered. Many would like to wait for good offers for the second console. 3.82 % of you will not be getting either a PS5 or an Xbox Series X. Reasons for this included strong gaming PCs.
The mini version of the next Microsoft console impressed the least: Only 2.46 % of our readers will buy the Xbox Series S. With a smaller SSD and weaker specs than its generational siblings, the console couldn’t convince you even with the low price of €299.
This supports the statement of PS5 chief Jim Ryan, who sees no success in weaker consoles like the Series S. Because players want to use a console for many years and do not want to think about a new device again in 2 years.
The Xbox wins significantly more votes
Why is this interesting? If you look at the previous surveys here on MeinMMO, the Xbox Series X has reached the highest level of votes since its announcement. Just 24 % of those surveyed would have chosen the Microsoft console a year ago; in January 2020, it was still 29 %. That looks different now.
Despite leading, the PS5 has declined in the past month. Even when combining the numbers of the disc and digital versions, it dropped from 57 % to 51.78 %.
Here’s why the Xbox Series X has caught up: With the Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft has further expanded its affordable game subscription. This has also led to MeinMMO editor Leya Jankowski switching from PlayStation to Xbox after many years.
You share the same opinion: The offer seems to convince you. The integration of EA Play into Game Pass has made “Netflix for gamers” a stronger alternative.
I also believe that Game Pass makes a switch more attractive for undecided people. The offer is extensive, diverse genres are represented, and all Microsoft studio games are available at launch.

And now, Microsoft has also acquired Bethesda, which was not known at the time of the survey.
Especially in the comments under the article and on Facebook, the Xbox Series X led.
Many of you have chosen the Microsoft console, even if not always directly at launch. You want to wait for the “growing pains” and initial offers and cool game bundles, hoping for the All-Access program (via GamePro), which includes Game Pass with the console purchase in some countries and even lowers the price of the hardware.
Even MeinMMO readers who will actually get both consoles have commented that the Xbox will actually be their “main console for blockbuster titles”:
The Xbox Series X as the main console and the PS5 for exclusive titles. On PC, I only play MMORPGs and Flight Simulator 2020.
MeinMMO reader Mihari
The XSX as the main platform, the PS5 DE for the exclusives (also finally the PS4 games without vacuum cleaner noises) […]

Exclusive games are still a main reason for buying a PS5
Even though the Xbox has become stronger, the PS5 still leads in the MeinMMO survey. In the comments, you told us that it’s about the games that will be released exclusively for the Sony console.
Even players who will get both consoles mentioned exclusives as their reason for purchase, as seen in the comments above. For example, Exelworks writes:
(…)
In the end, with PlayStation, it’s of course the great exclusive titles that are the main point for me.
A PC is not an option for me. There are only a few games that would entice me, where I would have to say, “yeah okay, you just need a PC for that,” and that does not interest me.

But the new PS Plus offer for the PS5 has also been mentioned as a reason. Sony offers a strong argument for buying a PlayStation 5 with the PlayStation Plus Collection:
Both. Sony has now also convinced me that in the PS Plus offer there are 16 games I missed. Not too wild, but having such a bunch is quite okay.
In addition, there’s the announcement of Demon’s Souls and the little Sackboy as well as Spider-Man, which I haven’t played either.

However, also the chaotic pre-ordering of the PS5 consoles has changed the mood. Many are still willing to buy a PlayStation 5, but for some, a lack of pre-order was a reason to consider the Xbox Series.
Together is the best?
Among the responses to the evaluation, another important reason was mentioned that influences the purchase decision: On which platform do friends play? However, in this argument, the PlayStation could have an advantage due to the larger player base.
Decisive, however, is often the community or the friends with whom you play. So, I would find it hard to give up a clan or a gamer friend circle for better graphics or other hardware advantages.
MeinMMO reader Beobachter
Well observed, Beobachter. This reader sees it similarly:
The most important reason is my friend circle. This will probably be true for many, whether Xbox or PlayStation.

Huhu, if that’s not a nice closing remark.
