The next-gen consoles are large. We already knew that from the product presentations of the PS5 as well as the Xbox Series X and Series S.
So that we could get an idea of the Xbox Series X and S even before the official launch, Microsoft sent us one of each console at MeinMMO. And I, Patrick Freese, got to unbox and examine the devices – you know, what one does before playing with them.
But don’t worry, I’ve captured the most important details like the slots for storage expansion, the controllers, and the consoles in size comparison for you. And since we’re on the internet, the famous “banana for scale” comparison is included as well. As you can see from the title image, it was not so easy with the banana.
The Xbox Series X in Unboxing with its Details
We start our photo series with the larger, more powerful version of the two consoles – the Series X. As you already know, you can operate it standing up or lying down. However, when lying down, the stand remains attached to the device. That didn’t really bother me since the side of the console is hardly illuminated in my TV cabinet anyway.
For you, I placed it on the TV stand and took some pictures.
In the big box, there is enough space for the Series X, and above is a compartment where the two cables, the controller, batteries, and the instructions (which everyone diligently reads) are stored.
When lifting it out of the box, I noticed that it’s not exactly light. I promptly placed it on the kitchen scale and weighed it. Yep, nearly 4.4 kilos is what this good piece weighs. The lightweight Xbox Series S, which I placed on the scale right after, is hardly worth mentioning at 1.9 kilos.
The Xbox Series S – Reminds of an Old Radio with New Technology
The box of the Series S is similarly structured as that of the Series X – but smaller. The lower part has space for the console, while the top is used for transporting cables, controller, batteries, and instructions.
The small Series S is noticeably lighter. The comparison to an old radio only holds at first glance. Upon closer examination, it quickly becomes clear how modern the device is. The ports at the back are easily accessible, and the front is kept absolutely simple. When the console is lying down, it’s hardly noticeable that the black ventilation grille stands out slightly.
The Controller of the Xbox Series X and S
Each console comes with one controller. Our Xbox Series X came with a black one, while the Series S came with a white one. The new Xbox controller is also available in blue.
The pad sits well in hand. The bumps on the shoulder buttons provide good grip. My thumb rests securely on the analog stick and doesn’t seem to slip even in sweaty situations.
