Sony recently announced that for PS5 games, a new controller is also required. Now Xbox says that all old and new controllers will work with the Xbox Series X.
What does Microsoft say? Xbox UK reached out to its users in a tweet and made a clear statement.
According to them, all Xbox One controllers should be compatible with the Series X and all games. Xbox continues its path of fully embracing backward compatibility. Supported controllers include
- the official Xbox controllers
- the adaptive controllers designed specifically for people with disabilities
- the Elite Wireless Controllers
- and all SCUF controllers
What is special about it? Sony recently stated, that PS5 games are only compatible with the PS5 DualSense. All other controllers would not work with the new games.
Microsoft is taking a different approach with its Xbox. The old Xbox One controllers should also work with the Xbox Series X and the new games.
And this statement fits into the overall strategy that Microsoft has pursued with the Xbox so far. Xbox Chief Spencer stated that he does not think much of PS5 exclusives and that the Xbox wants to enable gaming for all players. With controllers, this approach is now continued.
PC gamers can rejoice about Microsoft’s decision
Therefore, this statement is also important for PC gamers: Some players also rely on an Xbox controller on PC, and many Xbox titles are also released for Windows PC. While controllers are usually included with the console, PC gamers would have to buy a new controller. This allows PC players to continue using their equipment.
