A nasty bug in Wrath of the Lich King Classic causes massive gold loss. Every click pulls money out of your pockets.
That occasional smaller bugs occur in MMORPGs like World of Warcraft is an old hat. Big games are potentially prone to bugs, and “Wrath of the Lich King Classic” is no exception. But the extent of this bug must have caused some players to break into a cold sweat.
Because anyone who made the “mistake” of trying to complete a harmless daily quest could suddenly have lost several thousand gold pieces. A quest literally pulled the gold out of your pockets.
How did the gold disappear? This was possible with the daily quest “Slaves to Saronite”. The quest actually requires the character to rescue 10 slaves in a cave. Each slave must be clicked individually to free them from their shackles.
However, the quest was bugged. Several players report that instead of quest progress when rescuing the slaves, they suddenly heard the typical “jingle of gold” that you also hear when buying an item from a vendor.
Many people probably thought nothing of the sound – or simply didn’t have the sound activated – and kept trying to complete the quest, but quest progress was absent. This later led to a bitter awakening, as reports from players in the official forum increased of those who had lost well over 10,000 gold in an attempt to complete this quest.
What should you do if you are affected by the bug? Nothing. According to Blizzard’s own statement in the official WoW forum, they can see exactly which characters were affected by this bug and how much gold was lost in the process.
The developers plan to restore the gold over the next few weeks. There is not yet a specific date for that. So if you’ve lost gold, just wait.
