At BlizzCon 2018, owners of the Virtual Tickets can play the demo of WoW Classic. Clever players have already found access a week earlier.
Fans are already playing Classic: A leak allowed some players to obtain a working version of the upcoming Classic version of World of Warcraft. They have been playing it for a week before the demo is actually available.
Playable “WoW Classic” demo leaked before BlizzCon
Demo was supposed to be playable only at BlizzCon: For BlizzCon, Blizzard promised a demo for the upcoming Classic servers of World of Warcraft. Players attending live can play the demo at BlizzCon, while Virtual Ticket holders can play at home.
You can even earn a Virtual Ticket in WoW itself and don’t pay real money for it. If a ticket has been added to your account, you can download the Classic client in advance since October 24.
The downloaded client is not yet functional. The activation for logging in will occur at a later time.
Classic client found on Discord: However, a link to a Google Drive has appeared on some Discord servers, through which players could download a functioning client of the Classic demo.
Through a “sandbox emulator,” this client is tricked into connecting directly with a PC program, instead of as intended with Blizzard servers. This allows players to already log in and play the demo.
The release of the complete version is not expected to happen before 2021.
Different graphics, no NPCs: In the playable version of the Classic demo, there are no NPCs. You cannot accept quests or level up. You can only admire the beautiful landscape.
This landscape has received a bit of improvement. The YouTuber Dodgy Kebaab has published a video comparing the graphics from the 2018 demo with the original game from 2005:
The graphic options in the demo are reportedly much more extensive than they were back in the Classic days. There is also a “Classic” button in the menu that switches the graphics between the 2018 demo and original Classic.
