New, short videos give a taste of what might soon happen in World of Warcraft. A warning to all adventurers.
If you have been paying a little attention to social media in recent days, you might have received a link or two to “secret” videos. These are videos that were initially shown as “unlisted” on the YouTube channel of World of Warcraft – meaning they were only viewable with a direct link – but are now freely accessible.
These are small teasers for the story of K’aresh, the setting of Patch 11.2 Spirits of K’aresh. The videos narrate the history of the planet K’aresh from the perspective of a resident. But does this replace a trailer for the new patch? Is this an attempt at a new way of storytelling? The community is puzzled.
What are the videos about? The small audio logs tell the story of the planet K’aresh. A – judging by the voice, female – member of the K’areshi recounts the last weeks and years before the homeworld was consumed by the Void.
If you are not proficient in English, you can activate German subtitles on YouTube to understand the whole story.
You can watch the first audio log here:
The second audio log is a direct continuation, which you can find here:
Meanwhile, a picture was shared in the “Secret Finding” Discord, showing staring eyes in the darkness of the cosmos – along with a date, namely August 1, 2025, at 6:00 PM. Whether a video, a puzzle, or something entirely different will be released then remains to be seen. Perhaps we will be wiser tonight.
A first glimpse of the Void in Midnight
What does this have to do with Midnight? Although the two small audio clips primarily tell the story of the K’areshi, the original inhabitants of the Nexus and Astral, they also contain a few hints that indicate what might soon happen to Azeroth.
Especially the description of a “storm without wind and rain,” which “merely consisted of shadows,” that “stared hungrily,” is likely to remind many of the artwork Blizzard has already released for the upcoming expansion Midnight. For there too, we see a great storm from which the Void is pouring onto Azeroth. While some hope to see an old secret enemy in the image – whether there is anything to this remains to be seen.
The community is confused and divided: In the World of Warcraft community, these videos are met with mixed feelings. On one hand, they have relatively few views on YouTube, and on the other, many find them simply boring. The comments on wowhead tend to be rather negative, believing that there was simply a lack of trailers, which is why such simple audio messages were released, needing only a writer and a voice actress.
However, the comments under the YouTube videos are largely positive. Many enjoy this way of connecting with new story elements and appreciate that many old lore details are being revisited – such as the fact that excessive magic is corrupting and harmful, even in the case of arcane magic.
