The hardest puzzle in World of Warcraft seems unsolvable. For almost a year, hundreds of players have been failing to find the correct answer.
Since the Legion expansion, the developers have repeatedly thrilled World of Warcraft players with smaller and larger puzzles hidden in the game world. Often, the search for the solution takes several weeks, sometimes even months. In a few cases, a puzzle remains unsolved even after a year – and that is currently the case again. Despite all the efforts of the “Secret Finding” Discord community, the solution to the puzzle is no closer.
What kind of puzzle is this? It revolves around the cat Jenafur. This pet was implemented in World of Warcraft with Patch 8.2.5 in September 2019 – almost a year ago. The cat is apparently part of a new and quite complex puzzle that the community has not yet figured out. This involves various NPCs and objects, such as an undead elf in the Ashenvale speaking about her cat or small cat treats that must be picked up and possibly placed at the correct position.
What is currently being puzzled over? Players have been puzzling in the Karazhan instance for almost 11 months. The current assumption is that the next hint in the theater room of Karazhan leads a step closer to the solution. After all, the clues mentioned sounds and notes, and the benches are arranged in such a way that they could at least roughly serve as a template for notes.

Blizzard has already given several hints: The developers at Blizzard are apparently closely monitoring the efforts of the puzzle community, because from time to time they give little tips. Especially Jeremy “Muffinus” Feasel often leaves somewhat cryptic messages. However, he revealed that the puzzle has something to do with a 4/4 time signature, which is why the community is now trying to find the right “song” in Karazhan.
Blizzard has already confirmed this:
- The puzzle works correctly and can be completed solo.
- There is no time gating or reputation farming and also no low drop chances.
- No toys or pets are needed.
- The puzzle also works for colorblind players and players who have difficulty hearing.
- You must be level 110 or higher, as you need to enter “Return to Karazhan”.
- You do not need to have mastered any of the previous puzzles.
- Sound and music are not necessary, but should remain activated, as it is part of the reward.
All these hints have not really helped. The mood of the community is now rather frustrated and worn out. No wonder, after all, they have been chasing a puzzle for over 11 months for which they simply cannot get closer to the solution.
The last hint from Blizzard even seemed like a little jab and a bit mocking. Because the official WoW Twitter account wrote:
We have noticed an increased interest among WoW players in a puzzle that was introduced into the game 11 months ago – Jenafur.
We appreciate the strength of the community and wish you good luck in solving the puzzle!
But at least the puzzle about Jenafur really exists. In another case, Blizzard made the community search for a toy for ages,even though it never made its way into World of Warcraft.
