The reddit user u/Somethin_Clever posted a photo on February 15, 2024, showing him lying in bed with his Steam Deck in hand. The screen indicates that the player had achieved a “Mythic+” rating of 2121.
In the comments, another user expressed excitement and asked how WoW plays with a Steam Deck and whether certain classes perform better than others. The post author then shared his experiences and tips with the device.

How does WoW play on the Steam Deck? Regarding his impressions of playing WoW on the handheld console, u/Somethin_Clever wrote:
SoD [Season of Discovery] seems the easiest to play, but I mostly play in Retail, I play on low settings (out of sight) and usually get around 38 FPS. In open-world events, I achieve quite low FPS. […]
In my time as a player on the Deck, I found that the complexity or number of keys in a rotation doesn’t matter as long as you invest a lot of time in your macros and keybinding.
Regarding the best classes for the Steam Deck, the player recommended melee DPS first, then tanks, and third ranged DPS. He further explained that classes with many placement spells are annoying but doable.

As selecting ranged targets on the Steam Deck can be somewhat tricky, he recommended switching the Beast Mastery Hunter to Survival.
Healing is too difficult on the console, and he doesn’t believe it works well – that’s why he has avoided it so far.
What are the downsides on the Steam Deck? u/Somethin_Clever also lists a few downsides of the Steam Deck. The setup takes a lot of time, and add-ons are annoying, according to the player.
As a solution, he advised: “I usually record all my WeakAuras on my PC and then upload them to Wago. Then I simply download them from Wago onto the Deck.”
Additionally, chatting is also a disaster on the device. While he can connect a keyboard, he still has to put down the console every time to type something.
However, it’s all worth it, as u/Somethin_Clever concluded: “But considering all the downsides against the advantage of playing in a comfortable bed/couch/chair or on the go/traveling makes it worth it in my opinion.”
