In some mount, a scary face is hidden. A queen from another game is watching you while riding in World of Warcraft.
Even though many of our readers have been playing World of Warcraft for nearly two decades now, there are still small details that not everyone knows. In the game’s subreddit, a user made a rather eerie discovery, as one of his mounts has a hidden face that grins at the character. What lies behind this, we will reveal to you here.
What was discovered? In the WoW subreddit, the user Thraybu shared a small screenshot. It shows his elf in the cockpit of a mechanical mount. Behind the joystick, a face is clearly visible that is looking at the character. Thraybu asks: “Who is the face in my sky golem?”
The community’s response comes quickly, as it is a rather well-known face – at least among gaming veterans. The character is Sarah Kerrigan from the StarCraft franchise.
This is how the community reacts: In the WoW subreddit, they are having fun, as most of them apparently still remember Sarah Kerrigan. After all, she was a protagonist in both the original StarCraft and the expansion Broodwar, as well as in the StarCraft II cycle. For some, she is fondly referred to as: “Sylvanas, but with bugs.”
Some of the comments:
- “Damn, StarCraft is so dead now that people don’t even recognize Kerrigan?” – 4Khazmodan
- “Oh man, is this the gaming equivalent of finding out you’ve gotten old…when people don’t remember or don’t even know what StarCraft is?” – N0x1mus
Another comment, that breaks my heart:
“That’s Kerrigan from that extremely popular multiplayer game: Heroes of the Storm” -oliferro
Is this a new Easter egg? No. The “face in the mount” has been there since the vanilla version of World of Warcraft. Even back then, some goblins used shredders, for example in the Stranglethorn Vale, to chop wood. These shredders had already incorporated the face of the Queen of Blades into their cockpit.
Such references to other Blizzard games are actually quite common in World of Warcraft. You can not only encounter heroes from Hearthstone, like Elise Starseeker or Sir Finley Mrrgglton (in “Legion”, “Dragonflight”, and “The War Within”), but you can also find the tomb for a game that was never released – the StarCraft shooter codenamed “Nova” (The Burning Crusade).
However, there are also a lot of Easter eggs that remind you of other games or franchises that do not belong to Blizzard, such as Zelda or energy drinks.
