In WoW: Midnight, you encounter numerous figures who have experienced and gone through a lot in their past. However, in the current expansion, you learn very little about this. That’s enough reason for a fan to create a remedy with an addon. The community is thrilled.
What is this addon? The modification for World of Warcraft is called IMAGO and offers a chronicle of the unforgettable heroes of Azeroth. KYLI4N_, the creative mind behind the addon, explains on Reddit that he got the idea while playing the current expansion Midnight.
When I started playing WoW four years ago, I was completely overwhelmed. I loved the world and was fascinated by the lore, but I constantly stumbled into significant characters and epic story arcs without any context. Either you already know the story, or you have to Alt-Tab into a wiki, which completely ruins the immersion.
Midnight has brought back this feeling in a way that no expansion has done before. I constantly walked through Silvermoon and thought about what this city has gone through while standing next to characters who survived things most players have never read about. And there was just… nothing in the game that could close that knowledge gap.
This is exactly where his addon aims to provide all the essential information for story and lore enthusiasts. For example, if you target a significant NPC, you unlock their chronicle entry and learn who they are, what role they’ve played in WoW so far, and what their significance in Midnight is. There are also entries for the regions of the current expansion.
Currently, the addon includes info cards for 56 selected characters and 7 zones. With the continuation of the Midnight storyline, more entries are expected in the future. KYLI4N_ also explains that he used AI tools to summarize the information for the addon into suitable text snippets.
“Blizzard really has one of the best gaming communities”
How is the addon received? The more than 6,450 thumbs up and over 340 comments in just 12 hours underline how positively KYLI4N_’s work is received by a large part of the community.
- Mammoth_Opposite_647 writes on Reddit: “Blizzard really has one of the best gaming communities, and I don’t know if the developers even realize that.”
- Late_Stage_Exception sees a need for such information on Reddit as well: “I was in a random group last night where it took forever between fights, so I looked at the old bosses in the dungeon journal and… it almost feels criminal how little background text or information there is about it.”
- crabby654 celebrates on Reddit: “Damn, that’s really awesome.”
- ABoldBoi also praises on Reddit: “This is so cool! It reminds me a lot of the Codex library from Star Wars: The Old Republic, where you could unlock background information about events, places, or characters you were currently dealing with. I hope you continue!”
The addon, which was released 16 hours ago on curseforge.com, currently has about 1,500 downloads. There are praise comments there, but also initial bug reports.
