World of Warcraft has released a new cinematic. In Threads of Fate, we see Xal’atath rallying the nerubians to their cause.
Blizzard has started to release new cinematics for the upcoming expansion The War Within for World of Warcraft. The first cinematic revolves around the nerubians, the primary adversaries in the new addon. The kingdom of the nerubians served the Old Gods – and has now joined Xal’atath once again.
What is shown in the cinematic? The cinematic Threads of Fate depicts the kingdom of the nerubians and how it once served the Old Gods. When an emissary of the Old Gods demands the loyalty of the nerubians once more to save Ny’alotha from ruin, the queen rises up and kills the emissary to lead the nerubians on a new path.
However, with his last breaths, the nerubians and all descendants of the queen are cursed. Slowly but surely, the nerubians perish and undergo various mutations that gradually rob them of strength and grace.
The queen’s daughter questions her aging mother and her decisions, as they seemingly have no good consequences for the people.
One day, Xal’atath appears and offers the queen to lead the nerubians to newfound strength so they can take their destiny into their own hands and conquer the world – at a price. The price is too great, and the queen declines.
In the next moment, however, she is betrayed and killed by her daughter Ansurek. For Xal’atath had also approached the daughter, who was more susceptible to the words of the harbinger. Xal’atath wants to use the blood of the Old Gods to make the nerubians more powerful than ever through mutations – and thus have an army under her control.
Is there more to come? Blizzard has not revealed whether this will be the only video in the series. It is quite possible that in the coming two weeks – during which gamescom 2024 will also take place – more cinematics of this kind will be released. Then the release of The War Within will also be upon us. Until then, we can only wait, as this video definitely makes us hungry for more. Or what do you think?
