Players are currently reporting that they are finding the Epic Edition of the current addon World of Warcraft: Shadowlands on their accounts – just like that, as a gift. This is the most expensive version available for digital purchase, with tons of content.

Who receives the gift? According to current information, primarily former players worldwide are being gifted the Epic Edition. There are posts in various languages, including German.
Apparently, players who have not played for a while are primarily affected. MeinMMO has already asked Blizzard whether this is actually the case. However, the response is that there is currently no information available that they can share with us.
If you want to check if you are among the lucky ones, simply log in to the Battle.net desktop app. You should then be greeted directly with a gift or find a notification in the bell at the top right.
Shadowlands gifted – Will soon be included in the subscription anyway
What is behind the gifts? For some time now, the old expansions of WoW have simply been integrated into the subscription when a new addon is released. This is to allow new players to play up to the fresh content without having to buy many previous expansions first.
Since Dragonflight is set to be released in 2022, it is likely that they want to draw attention to the game once again and encourage former players to play. Soon, no one will have to buy Shadowlands anymore.
