World of Warcraft has reached first place on Twitch among games with the most viewers – even if only for a short time. The reason for this was apparently the beta release of the Classic version of the game.
How well WoW performed: In the night of May 15 to 16, the first wave of invitations for the beta of WoW Classic was launched. Some players were able to spend the first hours in Vanilla and many of them shared this on Twitch with viewers.
Shortly after the beta was released, over 200,000 people were already watching streamers on Twitch play Classic at the same time. World of Warcraft thus reached number 1, even surpassing the leading game Fortnite.
The streamer Asmongold, who actually wanted to stop playing WoW, had over 56,000 viewers at times.
This last happened with the release of the new addon Battle for Azeroth and since then WoW has had a rather tough time on Twitch.
According to sullygnome, Fortnite still had a slight edge in the past 24 hours, but at the moment (May 16 at 1:15 PM) WoW is still ahead of Fortnite, but only in second place with the most viewers behind League of Legends.
Why can hardly anyone play? The invitation to the beta of WoW Classic is carried out in waves, as is usually done with Blizzard’s beta tests. This means that interested parties are invited to participate at certain intervals.
With the first wave, relatively few players were invited, and accordingly, the demand was high among fans who also wanted to play. However, the invitations can only come directly from Blizzard, keys cannot be purchased.
Meanwhile, even criminals are benefiting from the rush for Classic and trying to scam players with false Classic keys.
How can I participate? If you want to participate in Classic yourself, you must register directly for the WoW Classic beta tests. From then on, you have a chance with each wave to also be invited.
Whether you were invited can be seen in the Battle.net launcher. When selecting the game in WoW, “Classic” appears at the top as a beta test. You will then shortly receive an email confirming that you have been invited, but you will not be asked to visit any sites.
If you prefer not to test but wait until Classic starts, you will have to be patient. Blizzard recently revealed August 27, 2019 as the release date.
