Those who wanted to use a new feature in World of Warcraft look baffled now – because an account that some have had for many years could be banned.
With housing in World of Warcraft, players have been given new opportunities to express themselves and share their creativity with the world. In order to share their own house with the world, there is now a Pinterest integration in WoW – allowing players to upload screenshots directly to their account.
The catch: This leads to account bans.
Pinterest was supposed to spread housing, but causes bans
What’s new in WoW? A few days ago, World of Warcraft activated a new feature. Just like many years ago with Twitter, there is now a Pinterest integration in the game. This allows you to take photos in the game and upload them directly to your pinboard. In theory, this works quite well to share your house and cool ideas with the world.
However, the feature has a problem: Those who used it often found their accounts banned.
Why are accounts being banned? This is a bit questionable. However, some report in the official WoW forum that after uploading their first screenshot, shortly thereafter an email landed in their inbox: Their Pinterest account was suspended due to “activities that violate our policies.” They were advised to “take a closer look at our spam policies.”.
How did Blizzard respond? Until the problem is resolved, Blizzard has temporarily disabled the Pinterest integration. It seems that some arrangements between the two companies have not gone entirely correctly. Currently, you don’t have to worry about your Pinterest account – as you cannot use the feature in WoW at the moment.
We are aware of this issue and have reached out to Pinterest.
Until this is resolved, we have disabled the feature.
We are keeping a close eye on it and will reactivate it as soon as it is safe.
Since this appears to be a mistake, most should eventually get their Pinterest account back – it is nonetheless a bit curious that World of Warcraft’s second attempt to connect with social media accounts starts off similarly oddly as the infamous “Twitter patch” many years ago in Warlords of Draenor.
