In the past, healers had a hard time, as they were removed from groups in World of Warcraft simply because they were no longer needed. And it seems that now even damage dealers are no longer needed.
What kind of phenomenon is this? At the release of World of Warcraft, the holy trinity of tank, damage dealer, and healer was established. Healers have been removed from groups for some time now as their function was no longer needed. They had a hard time finding a group.
Now there are groups that can even get by without damage dealers. In WoW, more and more groups are emerging that complete “Mythic+” dungeons solely as a tank configuration.
In a YouTube video, user Kallugrax shows, for example, how 5 tanks manage to complete a dungeon at level 22. They even have 4:20 minutes left at the end. This suggests that they could have gone a few levels higher.
Tanks have become all-rounders in WoW
How is this possible? Some tank classes possess self-healing and now deal almost as much damage as damage dealers. This makes them all-rounders who can handle themselves well in challenging content.
First of all, tanks don’t have to fear that Blizzard will adjust their strength. With the current patch 10.2.5, there were no significant changes for tanks, adjustments were primarily made to damage dealers and healers.
It’s yet to be seen whether there will be changes to tanks in upcoming patches and hotfixes. In the past, there have already been some buffs for tanks that were intended to benefit the whole group.
What’s next for WoW? One thing we can be sure of is the release of the upcoming expansion “The War Within”. The first tests have already begun, as the release is expected to happen by the end of summer or early autumn.
Additionally, there are more patches that could potentially change some of the class balancing. MeinMMO demon Cortyn summarizes what Blizzard has planned for 2024: WoW shows roadmap for 2024 – The War Within already this summer, secret patch 10.2.6 coming
