Tier Sets in World of Warcraft are extremely powerful – and starting today, you can “craft” them. We will explain how to use the “Creation Catalyst”.
One of the major features of Patch 9.2 in World of Warcraft was the return of Tier Sets. They provide really strong bonuses and will soon likely be mandatory for almost all classes. But what about players who don’t raid or always have bad luck with drops? For these characters, there is now help, as today (04/13/2022), the Creation Catalyst is active!
What is the Creation Catalyst? The Creation Catalyst allows you to convert items into Tier Set items of the current Tier Set from the Sepulcher of the First. The items retain their original item level but gain the bonuses of the Tier Sets, their appearance, and their secondary stats. Socket slots, upgrade state, and tertiary stats (such as avoidance or leech) will be carried over during the conversion.
You will find the Creation Catalyst in Zereth Mortis. It is located in a floating complex at coordinates 48 / 88. You can simply fly to the Catalyst or use the teleporter under the building if you haven’t unlocked flying yet.
Which items can the Catalyst convert? Basically, a variety of items that you have obtained in the current season of Shadowlands. This includes the following list:
- Items from the raid Sepulcher of the First
- Items from Mythic+
- Items from PvP
- Items from the world boss Antros (Zereth Mortis)
- Items from merchant Rafiq (Zereth Mortis)
However, keep in mind that only the 5 main items of the set grant their 2-piece and 4-piece bonuses, namely helm, shoulders, chest, gloves, and pants. All other items do not grant set bonuses, but acquire a new appearance, fitting with the Tier Set – which is of interest to transmog collectors.
How much does it cost? Using the Creation Catalyst costs cosmic flux. However, moderately active players are likely to have this resource in abundance, making the costs negligible. Depending on the equipment slot, the costs vary:

How often can you use the Catalyst? The Catalyst can currently be used only once per character per week. However, the Catalyst receives a recharge each week. So, for example, if you skip this week, you can use the Catalyst twice in the following week. Those looking to catch up their alts in a few weeks can use the Catalyst multiple times in a row – as long as the necessary costs can be covered.
