Adjustment through glyphs in World of Warcraft is quite neglected. Yet a fan has such grand ideas that players want to see him at Blizzard.
Glyphs in World of Warcraft have gone through several major changes. After they initially went through actual gameplay changes in their first variation, they are now merely cosmetic adjustments. They ensure that spells and abilities have different visual effects and thus offer a somewhat more individualized look of various skills.
However, many find that glyphs do not go far enough and need significantly more variety. So does a fan, who shows his suggestions in the subreddit of World of Warcraft.
Who is it about? The Redditor is Reddit user “Fishbones06”, who has been posting his suggestions for new glyph designs in the WoW subreddit for months. Some of them are “only” simple images, while others even have animations. But even the static suggestions are quite detailed and show how good the glyph system could be.
Meanwhile, Fishbones06 has collected well over 100,000 upvotes with his suggestions – no wonder considering how great some of the suggestions look.
What ideas did he have? We would like to briefly introduce you to some of the most interesting ideas here.
One of Fishbones06’s latest creations is a cosmetic variation of Warlock demons for Zandalari trolls. Two different sets of glyphs would adorn the demons either with golden Zandalari armor or with red, voodoo-like designs of the Blood Trolls, depending on preference. Particularly, the golden succubus with its numerous decorations stands out impressively here, but the voidwalker also makes a strong impression.
For shamans, Fishbones06 has come up with a special glyph for the Earth Elemental that should particularly please archaeology fans. The normal Earth Elemental is here enhanced with bones and fossils that were buried in the earth.
A bit darker is the concept idea for undead Mechagnomes – cybernetic gnomes whose bodies have long since died and are only kept “alive” by their technology:
Similarly dark is a druid form for the forsaken, namely the “Moonkin Abomination,” which was constructed from several bodies and thus reminds of the worst creations of the Scourge and from Drustvar:
In a similar direction go the shaman ideas for the forsaken, should they ever become playable. Then the undead could use gravestones as totems or summon an extremely cool gravestone elemental (including skeleton):
Even priests would be well served and could regain their Yogg-Saron tentacles from Legion or have Il’gynoth wings on their backs. A “Holy” version of the shadow form would also be conceivable, as well as further features of the Old Gods.
Last but not least, a few variations for the “Avenging Wrath” wings of the Paladin. Here there are numerous different suggestions, one for each race. For example, Draenei could make parts of Naaru appear on their backs, while Zandalari trolls could don the wings of Pa’ku. Dark Iron Dwarves naturally burn with the glowing wings of the Firelands.
This is what the community says: As can be seen from the thousands of upvotes alone, the ideas are extremely well received by the community. Accordingly, there is a lot of praise in the comments on individual suggestions:
- “Dude, stop creating such brilliant things! It just makes me sad that we will never have them in the game.”
- “All these posts make me think that only 2 people are working on WoW at Blizzard.”
- “Wow, I’ve been fooled again. I thought this was a graphic from the game, haha. Good job!”
- “I love your work, but can you please stop posting it? We will never get it and that makes me sad.”
- “Insane good work. Blizzard should hire you for these ideas.”
What do you think of these glyph suggestions? Cool ideas that are easy to implement? Or does it go too far and shouldn’t be so extensive?
