The big Pre-Patch 3.0 for World of Warcraft: Classic is online and once again ended the era of Burning Crusade. With Wrath of the Lich King, the next expansion starts, but without the Dungeon Finder. The system that replaced the group search leads to frustration and a lot of spam shortly after the launch.
The release of the “new” expansion Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK) for WoW: Classic is still a while away – on September 27, it will finally happen. But already now, the gears are being set in motion in the game, and with Pre-Patch 3.0, the first changes have come into play as well as the end of Burning Crusade.
For many readers on MeinMMO, Wrath of the Lich King is considered the best WoW expansion of all time. Although it introduced a controversial feature to the MMORPG at the very end: the Dungeon Finder.
With the relaunch in WoW: Classic, the Dungeon Finder does not return to the game. However, just a few hours after the launch of the Pre-Patch, it seems clear: the replacement system is not really working either. The “Looking for Group” tool seems unnecessarily complicated and leads to spammed chats.

New tool is too complicated – players prefer to spam
What is the problem? A thread on Reddit quickly formed around the topic, gathering over 350 comments within 4 hours. Title: “The new LFG tool is total garbage”.
The thread creator “dbcanuck” is noticeably frustrated with the new tool, which is supposed to help find group members faster. The problem, however, is that it is much more complicated to set the tool up correctly than to quickly post a request in the chat.
In addition, the new group search mechanic limits access to the chat for group search. This now leads to other chat channels being filled with group search requests, such as the trade chat.

What is wrong with the tool? According to dbcanuck, it starts with the controls. One has to perform 3 or 4 menu clicks to list oneself. A message in the chat, even a re-post of that message, would be faster. The user describes it as “very cumbersome”.
Furthermore, there is real role enforcement: players can sign up as tanks but do not necessarily have to play that role. This invites players to disguise themselves as a wanted tank and then negotiate with the group.
In this context, many commentators report that the selected role keeps getting reset, and they have to set it again for each search attempt. However, this currently seems more like a bug.
Additionally, the tool needs to be updated manually to show the latest group searches.
Many players in the Reddit thread are frustrated because there was already a long beta phase to identify such problems. In addition, the tool is not really new, but rather a revision.
User “Isair81” writes a very fitting comment on this: “The reinvention of the wheel… but now the wheel is no longer round, it is oval”.
