WoW Classic: Players have created a new "Loot Legend"

In the past, there were loot legends in WoW Classic. Nowadays, people would easily see through such things – or would they? Players are creative and create new myths.

About 15 years ago, when World of Warcraft was still in its “Vanilla” version and was practically in its infancy, there were many mysteries in the game. When players couldn’t explain something, they simply invented rumors that quickly spread through “hearsay.” Back then, people thought:

Onyxia breathes in deeply particularly often when players are standing close together.
If the tank enters a raid first, plate loot drops particularly often.
The sword Ashbringer is said to wait behind a very long hidden quest line.

Such and other rumors were plentiful back then. Now players just invented a new rumor – and are surprised that it works.

What’s it about? It’s about the item “Wild Gladiator Chain.” It’s an epic item with an extremely low drop chance in Blackrock Depths. It drops only 7% of the time from the boss Gorosh the Dervish – who, in turn, also has a low chance of spawning in the arena event. So, two low probabilities must occur simultaneously.

During the Harvest Festival, however, there is still an Ancestor in the arena from whom one can obtain a Moon Festival coin. The Ancestor is illuminated by a moonlight shining down on him. The “new legend” says: If you kill Gorosh in exactly this light, the Wild Gladiator Chain will definitely drop.

Players post tons of evidence: Since a player started this, there have been almost daily posts on Reddit with groups that have tried this tactic and apparently succeeded. Again and again, screenshots are shown of groups that are surprised that the Wild Gladiator Chain actually drops when Gorosh dies in the moonlight.

Is there any truth to this? No, there isn’t. For every “proof photo,” there are numerous posts by players stating that it didn’t work. But that’s somewhat the beauty of all the loot legends of Classic. They don’t have to be true; you just have to believe in them.
