Loot Masters in WoW Classic are a good thing. But not in the HC variant – because when the boss dies here, no one gets loot.
When in World of Warcraft the tank dies, it’s actually not a big deal. A resurrection and a new attempt, and then you continue. But not so in World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore. There, a dead tank stays dead – unfortunately also if he carries the loot from the entire raid with him.
What happened? The raid group of the warrior Sardaco had reached the final boss of the raid “Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj” – only Ossirian had to be defeated.
Due to faulty communication, Sardaco misses the correct moment to click the next obelisk. As a result, the boss has a massive buff for several seconds and hits with extreme force. A single hit critically strikes Sardaco for 7,700 damage and knocks him out of life immediately.
Even though the raid group ultimately manages to kill the boss – the loot is lost. Because due to Sardaco’s death, all his inventory is also lost. There is no way to transfer the loot from his character to another one anymore.
The loot from Ossirian is also gone. Since Sardaco was the loot master at the time of the kill, only he can pick up the loot.
From a loot perspective, the entire raid was therefore for nothing – educational but certainly all in all.
Community responds with mockery: Sardaco’s death is met with much derision in the community, as many mistakes in his playstyle are recognized in the subreddit of WoW Classic. Kortiah takes a still analytical look:
No Crit Immunity (just use Shield Block, gg) and to tank with the Lionheart Helm in HC against a boss that has a hard enrage. He says he would click, clicks 2-3 times while he is out of range (you can tell by the gray gear). It’s not like it “doesn’t work”, he was just too far away.
It’s harsh, but this guy deserved his death 100%.
The biggest mistake, however, was that he suggested with the exclamation “Clicking, Clicking” that he would click the obelisk himself – although that was actually the task of another player. This ultimately led to his death and the loss of all the loot.
Why isn’t the loot distributed immediately? In GDKP raids, it is common for the loot to be distributed only at the very end. The reason for this is that all raid members are obligated to stay until the end. If loot were distributed right after the boss kill, then corresponding characters would disappear after receiving their loot and would need to be replaced. Since there was no Dungeon Finder in WoW Classic to easily recruit players during a run, this would take a lot of time every time.
Therefore, it is common for loot to remain in the possession of the loot master until the end and only be distributed after the raid is completed.
In WoW Classic Hardcore, however, this carries the risk that no one gets anything – as this example shows very impressively.
Other characters also die a terrible death – because they “accidentally” blew themselves up.
