If your character in WoW Classic HC is killed by a friendly guard, there are long faces and a lot of frustration.
In World of Warcraft Classic, players are very attached to their characters – especially in the HC variant. Because if you die there once, you have to say goodbye to your hero permanently; there is no resurrection. Players are therefore extra cautious when it comes to duels or other PvP options. Most have simply disabled PvP. Few are willing to engage in a “Mak’gora” for life and death – a normal duel that ends at 1 HP happens more frequently.
However, even such normal PvP duels can end deadly if guards suddenly intervene.
What happened? The undead mage Thegreek challenged the Tauren druid Beaks to a friendly duel. They had previously joked a bit in the chat and then wanted to resolve a playful dispute via duel.
A normal duel is not a problem even in the “Hardcore” variant of WoW Classic. Players cannot kill each other – the fight ends at 1 HP and debuffs are removed.
For TheGreek, the duel went poorly – he lost significantly. But when his character kneels down, something strange happens. A guard from the crossroad rushes to the mage and quickly knocks him out of life. The message of his death is sent immediately.
Why did this happen? Although the exact reason is unclear, the community has a suspicion. Because if you watch the clip very slowly, you can still see the damage numbers from abilities on the opponent, even though the duel has already ended.
The guard likely perceived this as “attack on a Horde character.” In such a case, guards rush in and try to defeat the enemy Alliance player or nasty mobs to support their Horde colleague. However, the Tauren seemed to be quite indifferent to having to attack an ally for this.
But maybe he just didn’t get the message that undead now belong to the Horde.
Is Blizzard doing anything about it? No, almost certainly not. This “bug” has existed in the game for many years. It occurs in both allied cities and neutral cities (like Gadgetzan). Even though it can lead to the early death of a character, this is the “normal behavior” of the guards and has been the case since the Vanilla times.
Have you also lost a character in such a bitter way?
By the way, hunters die most often – much more often than all other classes.
