If you have what it takes in WoW Classic, you can soon compete for $50,000 in prize money. At least if you play on the right realm.
Just over a month has passed since World of Warcraft Classic went live, and there are still queues on many servers during peak times. However, while Onyxia and Ragnaros have bitten the dust almost everywhere, players are seeking new goals and challenges.
It is therefore fitting that the first duel tournament has been announced for PvP enthusiasts, where players can duel. The prize pool is a whopping $50,000.
What kind of tournament is this? The “Classic WoW Dueler’s League” will be more than just a single event, but a whole league with seasons, qualifying matches, and more. In qualifying matches, the 4 best players of each class will first be determined. These players will then compete in numerous matches over 4 weeks, and the 2 best players from each class will advance to the “Championship Finals” to determine the King of Duels.
Where is the tournament held? The “Classic Dueler’s League” will take place in its first season on the American PvP server Faerlina. This is the realm where most streamers and their communities are located. In the first season, play will only be on the Horde side. Therefore, if someone wants to participate, they need a level 60 character on the Horde and can register on the League’s Discord server.
Is there more to come? A look at the league’s FAQ shows that there are also plans to bring the Dueler’s League to the Alliance side and expand it to other realms. Whether such tournaments will also take place on European realms – with a similar prize pool – remains to be seen.
True PvP is still missing: The Duel League is also emerging mainly because there is currently no “real” PvP in World of Warcraft Classic. Traditional PvP with rewards, battlegrounds, and the infamous ranking system will only come in one of the later phases. A specific release date is not yet known. For now, players have to amuse themselves with open PvP or duels, which unfortunately offer no rewards.
