At BlizzCon 2023, the next expansion of WoW Classic was announced. It will continue with Cataclysm, as many anticipated.
Many had already speculated about it, and now it has become a reality. At BlizzCon 2023, the developers of World of Warcraft introduced the next expansion in the “Classic” area. As back then, it will continue with Cataclysm.
What is Cataclysm? In Cataclysm, Deathwing rose from the sea and permanently changed the World of Warcraft. As he flew over the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, he left a path of destruction. This was accompanied by the massive emergence of the Twilight’s Hammer cult and various attacks from well-known elementals.
This destruction of many areas was accompanied by new quests and an overhauled story – but it also meant the disappearance of many popular quest lines and some rewards that were no longer available.
Will Cataclysm be just like it was back then? There will be some changes. After all, Cataclysm is considered by many to be the “turning point” where World of Warcraft changed too much and no longer really belongs to the “Classic Era.”
Blizzard wants to pay more attention to community feedback here. In recent months, there have already been many surveys sent out to some players, and the concerns from forums and the game’s subreddit are taken to heart. The changes will be aligned with the wishes of the community.

When will WoW Cataclysm Classic be released? There is still no exact release window for the next expansion. However, Cataclysm Classic is expected to “be released in the first half of 2024” – so within the next 8 months.
