Horde enchanters are sad. In World of Warcraft, they now earn less gold than before – at least if they knew this trick.
World of Warcraft received a small hotfix today (May 14, 2020). It contained only a single point and may have caused some players to raise their eyebrows. However, Horde enchanters are likely to be upset about it. Blizzard has removed an easy way to earn gold.
What was in the patch notes? Only one point was found in the patch notes:
- The vendor sale price for the Enchanter’s Umbral Wand has been reduced by 40%.
This is an item that enchanters can create – at least on the Horde side.
How did enchanters earn gold from this? The wand could be sold for about 74 gold at any vendor. To craft it, you needed:
- 1x Starwood
- 20x Dark Dust
- 1x Umbral Shard
The materials were so cheap on larger realms in the auction house that it was worth just buying up large quantities and crafting wands that ended up with the NPC vendors. Alliance enchanters couldn’t use this trick, by the way. Their wand naturally had a slightly lower sale price.
What were the consequences? On the larger realms, where these materials were traded at low prices, there were some consequences. Those who knew this “trick” bought out the entire auction house to then spend hours crafting wands and throwing them at the NPC vendors.
Why did Blizzard change this? There is no specific statement from Blizzard on this. However, it is likely that Blizzard simply does not want (sometimes important) resources to be bought up from the auction house to then be converted into vendor items and yield high profits.
However, this possibility also existed in previous expansions, which makes the step seem a bit strange. But even now, you can still earn good gold in other ways.
