World of Warcraft has parted ways with many features over the years. We showcase 5 of them that have quietly disappeared.
In over 20 years, World of Warcraft has seen several significant changes in development. Today’s version of “The War Within” has little in common with the once-vanilla variant of WoW. However, not all features introduced over this time were a success, and some from the base game were not either. Blizzard has quietly let some of these die off and discontinued them.
Today, we look at 5 of these features that have disappeared without a trace over time.
First Aid
In World of Warcraft, all characters have the ability to heal themselves. Whether through the relatively new “Healing” ability, their own healing spells, food, or passive talent effects. However, for a long time, the only reliable healing for many melee fighters was “First Aid” – a secondary profession that allowed players to create various bandages and antidotes from cloth and poisons.
Bandages had to be channeled for several seconds to unleash their full effect. In combat, this meant that one had to stun the enemy to have a few seconds of peace to apply the bandage – as a single hit interrupted the healing.
It must be said, however, that First Aid had its heyday during the era of Vanilla, The Burning Crusade, and partially during Wrath of the Lich King. The gameplay of World of Warcraft has evolved since then and has become faster. At the same time, an “additional healing” no longer fit into the concept of fairness and balancing, whether in PvP or PvE.
This led to First Aid being able to heal a character only partially by the time of Wrath of the Lich King – something that became even weaker in the subsequent expansions.
At the end of Legion and with the transition to “Battle for Azeroth,” First Aid was finally done for. While most recipes were still available, they were split into tailoring and alchemy.
Today, there are only a few achievements from the past that indicate this profession once existed. It has completely disappeared, along with the small quests that were once found throughout the world.
