Wargaming, the developers of World of Tanks, have introduced some new features for their flagship game at their large convention “WG Fest”. This includes some balance changes and adjustments to the still controversial matchmaking.
The developers of World of Tanks celebrate the company’s own convention “WG Fest” every year in Moscow. There, besides shows, cool events, and the “Swedish Tank Ambassador” Dolph Lundgren, there is also solid information about the game. This year, the developers presented the roadmap for World of Tanks for 2017 in Moscow.
World of Tanks: The Balance Must Be Right
At the top of Wargaming’s agenda: game balance. Because a PvP game like World of Tanks needs as fair conditions as possible so that no one is disadvantaged. Balancing is particularly difficult with premium tanks. These are only available for real money and should therefore neither be too weak nor too strong.
According to Wargaming, older premium tanks are no longer strong enough to make an impact at their level. Therefore, in 2017, they want to revise the premium vehicles. Additionally, there will be new premiums, such as the Swedish Tank Destroyer S22 STRV S-1 or the heavy tank Object 252.
First the Mouse, Then the Maus!
What has been bothering many players of World of Tanks for a long time will soon be a thing of the past: research trees that suddenly force you into a new playstyle! For example, fans of the German tanks had different playstyles with the VK 45.02 among the heavy tanks than later with the big fat Maus at tier X.
Now, as a precursor to the Maus, you will get the slightly smaller Mäuschen and in front of it the thick VK 100.01 (P). With this, you can already practice the typical Maus gameplay before tackling the hefty endgame device. Moreover, numerous tanks will be revised, for example, the Tiger (P) will receive better turret armor, and the US tanks T28, T28 Prototype, and T95 will become more mobile.
Also cool: In 2017, there will be the first Tank Ace tanks. These are tanks driven by famous tank drivers. The first will be the German tank ace Otto Carius with his Tiger I.
Better Matchmaking!
Matchmaking has always been a constant source of frustration for many players of World of Tanks. Therefore, in 2017, it will also be revised. Known annoyances will be eliminated. In the future, there should be a better distribution of tanks across teams. Where previously one side had five tank destroyers but no heavies, while the other side had no TDs and five heavy tanks, the available tank pool should soon be distributed as fairly as possible.
Additionally, there will only be a maximum of three artillery vehicles per team. Tank teams will only be a maximum of three tiers apart in the new matchmaking. Also cool: there will soon be light tanks up to tier 10. These fast, maneuverable, and well-armed killers are meant to make gameplay at high tiers even more dynamic.
Our World of Tanks Will Be More Beautiful!
Since the eye also plays a role, extensive innovations are planned for the game engine and graphics in 2017. Not only high-resolution textures for the maps will be included, but also new physics effects are to be implemented. If this is done well, World of Tanks will finally be able to catch up with graphically more demanding rivals like War Thunder and Armored Warfare.
