The tank online game World of Tanks is expected by Wargaming manager Mohamed Fadl to remain online for another 30 years or more without any problems. Moreover, the esports manager commented in an interview on Gamespot about sports betting in World of Tanks.
World of Tanks, the online tank fun from Wargaming, has been on the market for almost seven years, but according to Wargaming’s Head of Global Competitive Gaming, Mohamed “Mo” Fadl, the game could easily be played for another 30 years or more. According to the “Games as a Service” concept, the game would be continuously improved and updated.
World of Tanks – “We compete with the top games every year!”
Due to its many updates, World of Tanks will always remain fresh according to Fadl: “Free2Play games that get as far [as World of Tanks] will never get old. It’s like a body with a heartbeat. It pumps fresh blood through the circulatory system every day.”
As one top manager at Epic Games said about Paragon, Mo Fadl also believes that successful free-to-play online games like World of Tanks need to be planned for the long term. Therefore, they must also be competitive every year with all current games (and those from the past).
World of Tanks Esports – Betting is part of it
Mohamed Fadl and his colleague Jungwon Hahn (GM for the Pacific region) also spoke about the issue of betting in esports. “It would be foolish to say that betting is bad,” Fadl said. Rather, they are “a natural part of all sports”. However, it is always a problem when real money is involved.
Nevertheless, Wargaming does not want to completely ban this and is currently considering a concept. They may want to offer betting with virtual money. However, Wargaming has no control over real money bets outside the game. Therefore, they must approach the matter very carefully, but Wargaming definitely wants to do something in this direction, as there is a high demand for betting.
WoT – Paid pro players and 15vs.15 esports
In the interview, Mo and Jungwon Hahn also addressed the topic of paying pro players a salary, as Blizzard does for Overwatch. They need more data for that. It’s questionable how long Blizzard can continue to do this.
Additionally, it was mentioned that currently the PC leads the WoT esports scene, but consoles will likely soon have the necessary “critical mass” of players and experience for esports.
Moreover, Mohamed Fadl still plans to increase the esports matches to 15vs.15 players instead of the usual 7vs.7 matches in a future update. After all, the regular WoT is played in teams of 15!
