Coming this year, the action MMO World of Tanks will be released on Steam. The free-to-play title featuring over 600 armored vehicles from 11 nations aims to reach new players with the Steam version.
World of Tanks is celebrating its eleventh birthday in 2021, and publisher Wargaming is using this occasion for a release on Valve’s Steam platform. The Steam product page lists the release date as 2021, but there is currently no exact release date.
Who is the action MMO worth it for? The Steam version of World of Tanks is exclusively aimed at new players. Those who already play WoT via the Wargaming Launcher can continue to use it. There will be no synchronization between the two platforms.
If you like historical tracked vehicles from the mid-20th century, you should take a closer look at World of Tanks. Players who have already played World of Warships or World of Warplanes on Steam will find a welcome change with the tank battles.

What to expect in World of Tanks
What tank classes are there? The tanks are divided into five unique vehicle classes, which compete against each other in a balanced manner on the virtual battlefield. The two teams can choose between tank destroyers, artillery, light, medium, and heavy tanks.
What tanks are available? Currently, over 600 tanks are available in World of Tanks. Many of them come from the history of the 20th century.
The British tanks include the famous Churchill VII, which advanced on the battlefield against the German Tiger, which can also be driven in World of Tanks.
The American forces are represented by 99 vehicles in World of Tanks. Their flagship is the Sherman tank, which had a significant advantage at the time due to its vertically stabilized cannon.
With 135 vehicles, the USSR currently offers the largest selection in the game. One of the most famous tanks of the former Soviet Union, the T-34, is also included in the game.
In addition to the three major powers of World War II, players can position armored vehicles from France, Czechoslovakia, China, Japan, Sweden, Poland, and Italy on the virtual battlefield.
Are all tanks free in the game? The majority of armored vehicles are already included in free-to-play or can be unlocked. Additionally, there is the possibility to acquire premium models in the real money shop.
If you want to acquire a specific tank, you should be patient, as there are often special offers and discounts on certain tanks and packages in the Wargaming shop.

When will World of Tanks be released on Steam? There is already a shop page for World of Tanks on Steam. However, the release currently only states the year 2021. The developers have not yet announced an exact date for the Steam release.
Can you play with non-Steam players? Yes, there is supposed to be full cross-launcher support. This is already the case with World of Warships, which is also offered by Wargaming on Steam and in its own launcher.
Will the Steam version include special features? There are supposed to be no feature differences between the two versions. Updates for the Steam version are also expected to be released simultaneously with those for the Wargaming client.
Do I have to create an account with Wargaming? The account will be automatically created when starting the Steam version of World of Tanks. Registration on the Wargaming website will not be necessary.

New features for World of Tanks are in the works
With the announcement that World of Tanks will be released on Steam in 2021, Wargaming has announced new tests in the sandbox mode. The sandbox is a test environment in World of Tanks where players can test new features in advance. In February and March 2021, players can test changes to HE shells, crew members, and artillery.
