We have just passed the beginning of summer, and all of Europe is already suffering from more than 30 degrees Celsius. The MeinMMO editorial team is also struggling daily. But these 19 tips will keep us cool even in the worst heat!
Those living in Europe have little to laugh about regarding warmth: According to Tagesschau.de, we will suffer up to 36 degrees today alone. It doesn’t matter if you are working from home or in the office; somehow, we need to cool down.
Of course, the MeinMMO editorial team is no different. However, every author has their own secret tips for surviving the heatwave. To share our collective intelligence with you, we have compiled our best tips for you!
By the way, if you have tips for cooling down that you don’t find here, please feel free to share them with us in the comments. We love to learn.
Quick Hacks You Can Do at Home
With these tips, you will cool down quickly and cost-effectively.
Hang wet bed sheets in front of the windows
If you work from home, you can do it like our editor-in-chief Lydia: She doesn’t want to sit all day with closed windows, which is a proven method for keeping heat outside. But to ensure that fresh air doesn’t carry the heat from Arakis inside, she hangs wet bed sheets in front of her windows. This significantly cools the wind down.
Fill a hot water bottle with ice water
MeinMMO editor-in-chief Leya, on the other hand, keeps it entirely analog. She fills her hot water bottle with cold water and ice cubes – a cold bottle, that is. This is then wrapped in a cloth and placed on her thighs.
Dampen towels or cloths
If you don’t have a hot water bottle, you can simply dampen towels or cloths and place them on your thighs or even on your neck. Our social video producer Anna has also reported success with this.
Cold foot bath
Two colleagues have had very good experiences with cold foot baths: Fill a medium to large bowl with water (leave space at the top so your feet can fit in) and cool your feet with it while you work.
Cooling gel on the feet
There are cooling gels that cool down the body parts where they are applied. According to a colleague, it’s especially effective on the feet.
Consume drinks warmer
Make sure to consume your drinks warmer: When drinking refrigerator-cold water, your body starts working and generates heat itself. You can read more about this here:
Wash arms with cold water
Another colleague has had very good experiences with regularly washing his arms with cold water.
Ventilate
In general, he has also had good experiences with a special ventilation technique. One colleague ventilates not only in the evening or morning but also during the day. However, it is crucial to only open the windows that are not on the sunny side of the apartment. For him, warm air that is stagnant is worse than warm, but fresh, air.
Shave your head
A few colleagues belong to the “tough it out” faction. One of them jokingly suggested that one could shave their head. He recommends the Kensen Series 15, which he also uses.
Here are some tips from the comments on this article:
- T.MP. says, you should avoid devices that produce heat, such as gaming PCs, televisions, sound systems, ovens, etc.
- thisisdifferentthings writes, you should keep curtains and windows closed and place the fan in the hallway.
Big Hacks for Good Money
For these tips, you will need money.
Air conditioning
Air conditioners are, of course, the top tier. But not everyone is lucky enough to have one installed in their apartment. One colleague invested in the mobile Bauknecht PACW29CO and says:
.Best investment ever for home office
Tech colleague Jan recently also appreciated his 900-Euro purchase and doesn’t want to do without it: So I don’t turn into a roasted chicken while gaming, I invested 900 € in an upgrade for my room
Shades
MeinMMO tech king Benedikt introduced his absolute life hack for a cool apartment in summer a few days ago. And it’s NOT an air conditioner – it’s special shades!
Fans
Of course, the editorial team also brought fans into play. There are portable ones for on the go, but one of our authors recently purchased a large stand fan, the PHILIPS CX5535/11 Tower Fan Dark Grey, which now continuously blows air at him.
He says the tower blows air pleasantly through his room, you can set a timer, and on the lowest setting, it is almost silent. Hence, the fan does not disturb when it stands next to the bed. And because it is so light, Max can easily carry the tower around the apartment.
MeinMMO author Cedric, on the other hand, swears by smart devices. Accordingly, he also got himself a smart stand fan: the Smartmi-Fan 3. Especially the nature mode is super pleasant because you aren’t sitting in the full breeze
.
Refreshing spray
Just a few days ago, a refreshing spray saved one of our colleagues from overheating. For him, the Balea Water Spray Coconut & Pineapple from DM is an absolute game changer.
Quick Tips for Dog Owners
MeinMMO editor Sophia Weiß is a dog owner herself and has her best tips and tricks for those whose four-legged friends also suffer from the heat.
Never leave them in the car
Dogs and also children should NEVER be left alone in the car – especially not at such high temperatures!
Damp towels
Damp towels help significantly with cooling – whether as a base for the panting four-legged friend to sit on or thrown over the dog.
Fresh water
Especially now, at such high temperatures, the dog always needs fresh and abundantly available water.
Cooling mat
My dog avoids it, but that doesn’t apply to everyone: cooling mats are a great spot to lie down and do exactly what the name suggests – cool down.
Bathroom tiles
Similar to the cooling mat, stone bathroom tiles generally stay cool even in summer. Here, the dog can also find refuge from the heat.
Water bottle for on the go
Pack a good water bottle that you always have enough fluid for your furry friend. I love our bottle from Vsshe because it has much more capacity than conventional bottles for on-the-go. Thanks to a clever combo with the foldable leaf that becomes the drinking vessel, unconsumed water is also not wasted: it flows back into the bottle.
And this is how the MeinMMO editorial team stays cool even in the hottest heat. I have personally heard many of these tips for the first time while writing this article and will soon try one or two of them. We would also love to know if you have any tips and look forward to your comments. For all those who own handheld consoles and love to carry them with them, we also have a warning: You should definitely leave your Steam Deck and Switch at home during these high temperatures
