With the Razer Kishi, manufacturer Razer has introduced a controller for smartphones that is slim and ergonomic. Finally, you no longer have to carry around a bulky controller. Until now, Switch users had the ergonomic advantage.
What kind of controller is this? Razer has introduced the Kishi, a controller that looks like the Joy-Con controllers of the Nintendo Switch.
As a smartphone gamer, you could hardly suppress the envious glances at Switch users, as gaming looks much more elegant and precise on the Switch compared to pulling out your smartphone and a large controller.

Also cumbersome: You always have to carry your heavy controller for gaming. With the Razer Kishi, this issue is eliminated, as you can simply slide the device together and safely store it.
What the controller can do: Razer offers you with the Kishi the well-known design that you are familiar with from the Xbox controller. This includes two thumbsticks, the XYAB buttons, and a directional pad.
Razer also focuses on a particularly ergonomic fit so that your hands do not hurt while gaming. Additionally, the manufacturer promises that the latencies will be particularly low. The analog sticks are also clickable.
The controller is pulled apart, and then the smartphone is inserted in between. The connection with the smartphone occurs physically via USB-C (Android) or Lightning (iOS). The controller does not work wirelessly via Bluetooth.
However, it does not require a battery, as it draws power directly from the smartphone’s battery.
Which devices are supported? The following devices are supported by the Razer Kishi.
- Supported Android devices: Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, S9, S9+, S10, S10+, S20, S20+, Note 8, Note 9, Note 10, Note 10+, Google Pixel 2, 2 XL, 3, 3XL, 4, 4XL, and Razer Phone 1 and 2
- Devices that have a certain size are also supported. Razer specifies the following dimensions: 145.3 – 163.7 mm (width) x 68.8 – 78.1 mm (depth) x 7 – 8.8 mm (height)
- Your device must support at least Android 8.0 Oreo or higher
- Supported iOS devices: iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, iPhone X/XR/XS/XS Max, iPhone 6+, 6s+, 7+, and 8+
- Your device must support at least iOS 9 or higher
What else should my smartphone be able to do? It is also important that your smartphone supports USB-C, because that is how you connect the controller to the device. If your device fits in size but does not have a USB-C port, then the Razer Kishi will not work with your device.
For the iPhone, the Lightning port is used. Here you have a slightly larger selection of devices.
Which games are supported by the controller? The universal gaming controller from Razer supports many games from the official Google Play Store. These include, among others
- Fortnite
- or Black Desert Mobile
Additionally, all games from Game Pass that you can play via cloud gaming on the Android smartphone are supported. Currently, there are about 170 games. These include high-profile titles such as
- Forza Horizon 4 (Racing Game)
- Frostpunk: Console Edition (Construction Strategy)
- Gears of War 5 (Shooter)
- Middle Earth: Shadow of War (Action-Adventure)
- or Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Jump & Run)
