The hardcore shooter Escape from Tarkov will receive a complete wipe with the 0.12.6 update. According to Game Director Nikita Buyanov, it will come sooner than expected. Perfect for starting with EFT.
This is what’s happening: In an interview with Australian streamer Pestily, Game Director Nikita Buyanov mentioned that update 0.12.6 will bring the long-awaited wipe. This will ensure that all players have to start almost from scratch. Only the progress of examined items and weapon presets will remain intact.
EFT wipe is coming “very soon”
When the wipe will happen: The wipe will occur with the next update 0.12.6. Normally, the updates are released several months apart, and 0.12.5 was only deployed to the servers a few days ago, on April 27, 2020.
Nonetheless, Nikita Buyanov states in the interview:
I saw that someone said the wipe would happen months after 0.12.5. That is simply not true. 0.12.6 is finished and we are conducting primary tests. We just have to fix a few issues. It won’t be months; it could be less than a month.

The development is currently in the “freeze period”; it has been temporarily halted to allow the team to focus on testing. Once that is completed, the already finished update can be deployed. That could happen as soon as mid-May.
The perfect moment to start with EFT
Escape from Tarkov has been very popular with streamers on Twitch since the beginning of the year, with the hardcore shooter still being in the top 20 charts.
However, getting into Escape from Tarkov is not easy, and veteran players can make life difficult for newcomers with their existing gear. These 13 tips will make it easier for you.
Here’s why starting is worthwhile: With the wipe expected in mid-May, all players will start almost from scratch. There’s no better time to start for now. Every player will need to strive to gather new gear during runs and escape with it.
In the podcast mentioned by Nikita (via Twitch.tv), there is also talk of an event that is supposed to take place 3-4 days before the wipe. More information will follow when a date is set. So anyone wanting to take another look at EFT or start anew should keep an eye on the event.
What else is included in update 0.12.6?
Nikita also discussed further details about the next update with streamer Pestily:
- The 9mm and .366 ammunition will receive a damage and penetration buff
- The AS VAL and VSS will be nerfed
- The Jager quests will become easier
- The supply crate will be expanded by 2 to 3 rows
- “Significant changes” to player hideouts
- Minor adjustments to the economy
Additionally, optional test servers are to be provided so that players can test the updates in advance and supply Battlestate Games with additional data. Players would surely be pleased if the teased Mandalorian helmet appears with patch 0.12.6.
