This summer there will be plenty of new content for Warhammer 40,000, including: The Leagues of Votann. The new Codex for the 10th Edition is now available for pre-order. The army is ideal for anyone looking to try something completely new in the dark future of the 41st millennium.
What are these dwarves?
- The Leagues of Votann are a race of rather small humanoids with a strong affinity for technology as well as sentient machines, the Ironkin.
- The exact origins of the Leagues are still unclear. Essentially, the faction is akin to dwarves in space; however, they are likely humans from the Imperium who disappeared millennia ago and have now re-emerged.
- The Leagues were announced back in April 2022. Now there is a new Codex and new models for tabletop.
This is what Games Workshop presented: Already in July, there was new information about the upcoming content for Warhammer 40,000, The Old World, Age of Sigmar, and The Horus Heresy. One of the highlights for 40k was the models for the Leagues of Votann.
Since Saturday, August 9, 2025, the Codex for the Leagues for the 10th Edition has been available for pre-order and is set to be released on August 23. There you will find not only rules for the game but also new lore about the Space Dwarves. In some snippets regarding the background on the official website, there is also information about:
- Buri Aegnirssen, a hero of the Leagues, who is wholly devoted to the fight against the ravenous Tyranids
- Memnyr strategists, Ironkin who act as leaders and strategists and process millions of data
- Arkanyst evaluators, scientists who serve as a counterpart to the strategists and test technical novelties in battle
If you want to start yourself: In the official Warhammer shop, you can get a small starter army (Combat Patrol
) with 19 figures starting at 130 Euro.
Game Workshop recently revealed in a new Codex one of the greatest secrets of Warhammer 40,000, so it is possible that new information about the Leagues of Votann will explain where they and their Kin come from. What is known so far is quite mysterious.
The Leagues of Votann use technology that has been forbidden for thousands of years
Allegedly, the Leagues of Votann are remnants of an Imperium expedition with which contact was lost, and they have now established their own culture. Originally, they were engineered mutants who could master industrial craftsmanship better and resist the influence of Chaos more effectively.
What particularly supports this theory is the existence of the Ironkin, sentient robots and almost advanced artificial intelligence. Due to a great catastrophe, AI is forbidden in the Imperium.
However, since the Leagues are said to have disappeared before that, it makes sense that artificial intelligence is still in use here and even resembles imperial templates.
The Space Dwarves are the first “new” faction that Warhammer 40,000 has received in years. The latest species before that was the T’au Empire with its communal ideals from 2001.
In line with the Leagues of Votann, the Old World has also received a new race of dwarves who deal with forbidden matters but on the other side of the moral spectrum: Warhammer introduces new dwarves who do forbidden things, directly converting hundreds of fans
