Warframe has finally received its new open-world update on Venus: Fortuna. This has made a huge impact and is attracting a large crowd of gamers on Twitch and Steam to experience the expansion together. This is no surprise, as this update is packed with content.
For months, the developers at Digital Extremes have been preparing for the release of Fortuna. They even organized a digital scavenger hunt to hype things up. Fans could hardly wait for Fortuna and were eagerly anticipating the update.
What is Fortuna? Fortuna is the second major open-world expansion of the free-to-play shooter Warframe. It takes players to a massive winter map located on Venus. Fortuna brings new features such as riding hoverboards and saving endangered animals.
40,000 watch a developer finish Fortuna
The hype before the release was huge: Last night, on November 8, a Warframe developer hosted a special show on Twitch.
For two hours, lead designer Steve Sinclair showcased himself applying the final touches to Fortuna. The moment Sinclair was finished, the update was ready for download. The stream reached 40,000 eager viewers who were just waiting for the download.
The mood in the chat was positive and excited – at least as excited as the developer himself.

Shortly after release, position 3 in the Steam charts
Just hours after Fortuna was released on PC, Warframe reached new heights on Steam. The MMO shooter shot directly to position 3 in the Steam charts.
Its last player record was achieved with the release of the new story update “Sacrifice”. Here, 129,002 players logged in, breaking the old record of 121,377 players.
So far, Fortuna has not yet achieved a new player record. Nevertheless, the numbers are impressive, and Warframe is increasingly becoming a staple on Steam.
New player record
Update November 10: There has been a peak of over 132,000 players according to SteamDB. This gives Warframe another player record. This does not yet include players who do not play the MMO shooter through Steam.

Fortuna offers a massive world and new gameplay
An update loaded with content: It’s no wonder that fans were so eager for Fortuna. The update came packed with a lot of new content.
- The new open-world map is 4 times larger than the first “Plains of Eidolon”
- Huge cave systems are hidden on the map and can be explored
- The most brutal Warframe to date has been released: Garuda
- There are new missions and rewards
- Pets are expanded with a robot
- Crazy stunts can be performed with hoverboards
- New side weapons for crafting have been introduced
- There are also new cosmetics and decorations
A fluffy surprise: Most of the new content was already known. However, Digital Extremes brought an especially sweet surprise.
If you catch animals on the new open-world map, you save them from the Corpus faction, which exploits the planet and all its inhabitants and is fought there. The animals that players capture are teleported to a safe, non-visitable place.
As a compromise, the animals of Venus are offered as plush toys for the player’s spaceship and can be earned through gameplay:
What do the fans think? The update is overall well-received in the community. Especially the hoverboards are very popular. Some bugs have been found, which is typical for an update of this magnitude.
At the moment, the community is still excited and delving deeper into the update. It will take a few days before the first solid reviews appear.
When will Fortuna come to PS4 and Xbox One? The update was initially released only on PC. Console players will have to wait a little longer. A date has not yet been announced.
What do you think of the new Fortuna update?
